Saturday Practice Notes

UCLA practiced without helmets on Saturday, with the team mostly just practicing a few game prep situations prior to the return to Westwood...

As Tracy wrote, it was a very short, very light walkthrough. The team spent most of the practice working through a mock game at maybe half-speed, with the players not wearing helmets. Jerry Neuheisel got most of the work, with Brett Hundley taking every third or fourth series.

We learned that Kenny Walker, who has missed the last few practices, is out with a concussion. Ellis McCarthy, who has been out with a calf injury, actually went through stretches today and appears like he's on the road to recovery. The rest of the injured remained much the same as before, though it was hard to tell because it was such a light practice.

The team spent most of the day working through the various situations they'll have on gameday, from the way they'll warm up at the Rose Bowl to the way they'll go through drills, substitute, and deal with halftime. It's been a tradition of Mora's to practice those minute details and today was the day for that.

There were more than 1000 people in attendance at practice, which is by far the most that have ever attended a UCLA practice in San Bernardino. There were several food trucks set up as well as free bottled water and drinks for the attendees. UCLA also gave away posters of Brett Hundley at the entrance. The event seemed well-orchestrated and well-run.

2015 Rialto (Calif.) Carter lineman Kyon Clark and his teammates, 2016 linebacker Lokeni Toailoa, were in attendance.

Mora told us afterward that he got everything he wanted out of the practice, so there's that. Other than that, though, there's not much more to report.
