Almost exactly one year ago DeAndre McNeal, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete from Mesquite (Tex.) Poteet was looking for his first offer.
Now the Scout four-star prospect is one of the most sought after recruits in the country.
Offers have come in from schools like Alabama, Arizona State, Auburn, Miami (Fl), Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech and UCLA.
"It has been a great experience, playing with a great team and great teammates," McNeal explained. I am blessed to have it all."
As a junior in 2013, McNeal was the star of the offensive show racking up 988 yards from scrimmage and scoring 20 total touchdowns.
This season he has added defense to his bag of skills and will be logging time at outside linebacker.
In Friday's scrimmage against Frisco (Texas) Centennial McNeal got his taste of playing both ways, including his snaps on special teams it seems he rarely left the field.
"Through little league I played both sides of the ball, also middle school," McNeal answered when asked if he was getting winded. "It is nothing new to me. I can do it."
McNeal is rated as a Scout four-star as an outside linebacker, but he should be considered as more of an athlete.
He has offers to play on both sides of the ball, but he wants to play offense when he gets to college.
He reports that he is mainly interested in schools that have recruited him to play offense.
"Offense is what I will play in college," McNeal stated definitively.
"That is what has gotten me all of my offers and that is what has got me my shine, so that is what I am going to stick with and hopefully it takes me far."
McNeal has decided on four of five official visits: UCLA, Miami (FL), Oklahoma State and Arizona State.
He is still looking to finalize his fifth and final visit, but does have plans to announce his commitment on December 20.
