This game is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Gorman is led offensively by UCLA commit Alize Jones, the most athletic tight end in the country who can really stretch the field. Wide out Cordell Broadus is another national recruit and also watch for sophomore transfer Tyjon Lindsey to be the teams big play receiver threat. Jackson Perry leads a big physical offensive line and Notre Dame commit Nicco Fertitta is one of the top safeties in the region. Servite is led by Oregon commit Travis Waller, one of the nation's top quarterbacks. He has plenty of options at receiver led by national recruit Equanimeous St. Brown and USC commit Clayton Johnston leads a physical offensive line. Defensively, the Friars are led by their secondary as Maurice Davison is a talented corner and Micah Croom should have a big impact at safety.
Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou vs. Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis
Fred Ulu-Perry, the top center prospect nationally, who's committed to UCLA, anchors the St. Louis offensive line and also plays on the defensive line. The Crusaders also boast four-star 2016 receiver Drew Kobayashi and sleeper 2015 quarterback Ryder Kuhns. Punahou is home to two more Scout 300 prospects that UCLA is recruiting, offensive lineman Semisi Uluave, who was cleared on Thursday to play against St. Louis and defensive end Canton Kaumatule, who's also playing tackle.
Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw vs. Long Beach (Calif.) Poly at Mission Viejo HS
Crenshaw has a young team but they always have athletes. Junior running back Andre Carter, younger brother of former all-city RB Raymond Carter, could develop in to one of the top backs in the state. Defensive lineman Khalil Jones is another junior to watch and was an all-state underclass selection a year ago. Junior Derek Moore is another athletic defensive end and is poised for a double digit sack season. Poly is loaded all over and could have their most talented teams in years. DB Iman Marshall is one of the nation's top corners and will see time at receiver as well. Defensive lineman Joseph Wicker can play inside or outside and defensive back Colin Samuel gives the Jackrabbits two of the biggest and most talented corners in the state. Josh Love is a smooth, efficient quarterback and junior receiver Jack Jones is one of the most explosive players in the state.
Sacramento (Calif.) Grant at Sacramento (Calif.) Burbank
The Pacers are finally playing with experience again and they have the horses up front, namely three-star offensive tackle Darrin Paulo, who's top four includes Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington State, where his brother plays. Donovan Brown will run the Pacers offense after starting as a junior. Speaking of Washington State, they've taken some of the talent from Burbank, with Calvin Green and Ngalu Tapa gone from their 2013 squad and now playing for the Cougars. But there are two more Tapa's in the mix, Kavaliku and Aleki, who play on both lines and will open up holes for Harrison Anderson, who takes over the primary ball-carrier duties from Green.
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North vs. Sparks (Nev.) Reed The Broncos come in loaded with one of the Central Section's best teams and they have a pair of Pac-12 commits plus several other D-I prospects on their team. Scout 100 defensive tackle Jacob Daniel, a commit to USC, is the top defender on the Broncos, but a knee injury suffered last season could still keep him out for the opener. Bolu Olorunfunmi, a three-star running back committed to UCLA, heads into his third year as the starter in the backfield. Fullback Westin Hatcher, who leads the way for Bolu, is a Top 5 fullback in the West. Defensively, Bransin Johnson, Malachi Foote and Noruwa Obanor are a part of a secondary that has all three with D-I offers. Linebacker Hayden Haupt has a number of offers too. Reed, which has made it to the Nevada state finals two of the last three years, is hoping their second game goes better than last week's 66-13 loss to defending Arizona State champion Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe.
La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat at Santa Margarita (Calif.)
Santa Margarita fields one of the nation top 2016 quarterbacks in K.J. Costello. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound signal caller was recently offered a scholarship by UCLA and USC, giving Costello more than a dozen scholarships offers to date. The Eagles also feature 6-foot-5, 235-pound defensive end, Rick Wade, who committed to UCLA over several other Pac-12 schools in July. The Bishop Amat Lancers have two of the top junior prospects nationally in Tyler Vaughns, who is rated the nation’s No. 4 wide receiver, and Trevon Sidney, who is rated as the nation’s No. 3 cornerback. Vaughns claims scholarship offers from USC, UCLA, Washington State and Colorado State. He could make a decision at the end of his junior year. Sidney unofficially visited USC, Oregon and UCLA in the off season. He hopes to still visit Washington and Arizona and some point as well.
Upland (Calif.) vs. Palmdale (Calif.) Knight
UCLA linebacker commit Josh Woods makes his Upland debut against Knight, the first game he's played since 2012. He'll be a part of a talented Upland team which features two Washington State commits, Kameron Powell and Tyler Hilinski and 2017 four-star athlete Nathan Tilford, who has a UCLA offer already.
Perris (Calif.) Citrus Hill vs. Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde
UCLA offensive line commit Tevita Halalilo and Rancho Verde, which features Florida commit Sheriron Jones at quarterback, opens against Citrus Hill, which has two San Diego State commits, safety Mike Bell and receiver Jacoby Herring.
DeSoto (Texas) and defensive tackle commit Bryce English open against Arlington (Texas) Martin. Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy and UCLA commit Victor Alexander have a bye. Lakeland (Fla.) Christian running back T.J. Simmons is out for the season with a broken leg. Lodi (Calif.) Tokay receiver L.J. Reed is still out after transferring from Cosumnes Oaks. San Leandro (Calif.) athlete Stephen Johnson is out for their season opener against Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill with a broken foot. Manvel (Texas) and UCLA cornerback commit Will Lockett and Herriman (Utah) and UCLA offensive line commit Andre James played on Thursday.
