Garrett Shines for Gorman

SEP. 5 -- 2017 Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman DL Haskell Garrett has UCLA on his early interest list...

Haskell Garrett is a 6-2, 270 pound defensive lineman who moved inside and outside for Gorman. He's a very strong player, uses his hands well and showed a relentless motor. He's a physical kid and projects as a national recruit in two years as well.

Garrett's performance was even more impressive when we talked to him after the game and noticed he had a cast on his hand running up to the middle of his forearm.

"I fractured my hand but I'm just going to play through it," Garrett said. "I felt good out there and our team did what we had to do to win the game. It's not about you, it's about fighting for others, your teammates. We played a good game and I had a lot of fun out there."

Garrett played at Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis as a freshman and said it has been an easy transition to Gorman so far.

"It wasn't just a football decision, it was about bettering my life," Garrett said. "Gorman is a great school and I thought it would help prepare me for life after football. It's a great academic school as well and that's big for me. The main thing about Gorman though is it really prepares you for college life on and off the field so I'm very excited to be here."

On the recruiting front, Garrett said he's still waiting to hear from some colleges but does have two early favorites.

"My main focus now is just getting it done in the classroom," Garrett said. "I just want to work hard, get bigger and stronger and hopefully recruiting will take care of itself. Growing up, Ohio State was my school, I just always always liked them. I like the way they play, the intensity in the program, it's a great school.

"I like UCLA a lot too. I have a lot of family in the area there, they have great academics and i like the opportunities after football they provide. Plus I'm close with Fred Ulu-Perry, I played with him at St. Louis and he's going to UCLA so that's another plus there."
