Joseph Wicker started off his season with a bang with a six sack, one caused fumble performance against Crenshaw two weeks ago. This past friday against a talented Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne team, Wicker had four more sacks and forced two fumbles giving him a state leading 10 sacks on the young season.
Wicker attended the UCLA-Memphis game Saturday night and just landed an offer from the Bruins Sunday evening.
"I just got off the phone with Coach Angus (McClure) and coach Mora and they offered me," Wicker said. "I'm very excited about it, it's a big offer, UCLA is a school I've liked for a while. They had been recruiting me off and on but have picking things up recently.
"Coach Mora explained why it took a little longer to get the offer from them. He was honest and said my junior was solid but they want to bring in national championship level players and they didn't know if I was at that level yet. He said they watched the film of both of my games and saw how much I've improved. He said they're going to go all in on me now and really want me so that's good to hear."
Wicker has been affective this year moving around along the line, playing some inside and outside and said that's how the UCLA staff wanted to use him as well.
"They said think I can play just about anywhere up front," Wicker said. "I could be a 3-tech or come off the edge and play as a 5-tech too. I like it, I was at the game Saturday and was a little surprised by the defense. They need some pass rushers and I think I can help provide that.
"I'm not even close to making a decision though, I want to take all my visits and they know that. I have a trip to Arizona State set up for (Nov. 8) and I'm going to Texas Tech (Nov. 15) for the Oklahoma game. I just started to hear from Tech, they offered me yesterday and I set up the visit.
"Notre Dame will likely be the next trip I set up. They're playing great right now and looked real good against Michigan. After that, I'm not sure where else I'll visit, I need to sit down with my family and figure it all out. I know I want to take all five though and then I'll sit down again and evaluate everyone and try and figure out where the best place for me is."
