Prospect Recap: Week Two

SEP. 15 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week two of the high school football season...

Game of the Week: Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco def. Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic, 42-14
In a matchup of California and Oregon's big school champions, St. John Bosco got an early test from Central Catholic before running away with a 28-point win. UCLA commit Josh Rosen was held to under 100 yards in the air, but ran for a pair of touchdowns while Sean McGrew, the 2016 running back target, also ran for a pair of scores. Central Catholic running back Cameron Scarlett, another UCLA recruit, caught a touchdown pass for the Rams.

Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North def. Atwater (Calif.) Buhach Colony, 36-35
UCLA commit Bolo Olorunfunmi came up big for the Broncos to help them edge Buhach Colony by a point. Olorunfunmi ran for 185 yards, three touchdowns and a key two-point conversion late in the game. Trailing 35-34 with just over four minutes left, Olorunfunmi punched in the two-point conversion and the deciding points.

Santa Margarita (Calif.) def. Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey, 21-10
Santa Margarita, behind a 22-for-35 passing night for 319 yards and two touchdowns from 2016 quarterback K.J. Costello, and a 15-catch for 212 yard night from Kyle Sweet, beat City Section program Dorsey. Rick Wade, the UCLA committed defensive end, led a stout Eagles defense, which shut down the Dons' offense.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman vs. Corona (Calif.) Centennial, 43-42
UCLA commit Alize Jones caught a two-point conversion from 2017 Washington commit Tate Martell with just over two minutes left to help the Gaels rally from a 42-28 deficit against Centennial and escape with a 1-point win, scoring 15 points in the final five minutes. Jones finished with eight receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns, and Martell was 12-for-24 for 266 yards and three touchdowns.

Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis def. Honolulu (Hawaii) Iolani, 55-20
Fred Ulu-Perry, the top center prospect nationally, who's committed to UCLA, helped bolster the Crusaders offense to almost 700 yards of offense, and they rolled to a five-touchdown win. St. Louis had 663 yards in offense, 443 yards coming through the air on 25-of-26 passing. 2016 four-star receiver Drew Kobayashi had three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou def. Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Francis, 56-0
Punahou, behind Scout 300 linemen Semisi Uluave and Canton Kaumatule, cruised to a blowout win over St. Francis, rushing for 232 yards and amassing 429 yards in total offense.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly def. Westlake (Calif.), 34-24
Despite recent UCLA offeree Joseph Wicker being held without a sack, the Jackrabbits rallied to beat the Warriors by 10. 2016 five-star Malik Henry was 19-for-30 for 244 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 31 yards and a score.

Las Flores (Calif.) Tesoro def. Upland (Calif.), 28-14
2016 Scout 300 quarterback Devon Modster helped Tesoro beat Upland and hand the Highlanders their first loss in 2014. UCLA commit Josh Woods ran for 61 yards, had 19 yards receiving, recorded 11 tackles and had a hurry in the loss.

Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde def. Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak, 69-21
UCLA offensive line commit Tevita Halalilo helped Rancho Verde's ground game put up an impressive 443 yards on the ground on 50 carries and 710 yards in total offense, scoring 48 points in the first half.

Mesquite (Texas) Poteet def. Richardson (Texas) Berkner, 45-14
With UCLA coach Adrian Klemm looking on, Deandre McNeil ran for two touchdowns, the second a 78-yard run, and Poteet had an easy win over Berkner.

Herriman (Utah) def. Highland (Utah) Lone Peak, 27-6
Thanks to a big ground game, Herriman, behind UCLA commit Andre James, held the ball for 31 of 48 minutes and topped Lone Peak.

Orange (Calif.) Lutheran def. Yorba Linda (Calif.), 42-6
Behind UCLA target Keisean Lucier-South, the Lancers had no problem shutting down the Yorba Linda offense.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy def. Jacksonville (Fla.) University Christian, 42-12
UCLA commit Victor Alexander had five tackles, 3.5 for loss and a sack in the 30-point win over University Christian.

Desoto (Texas) and UCLA commit Bryce English, who was out with a concussion, had no problem with South Oak Cliff (Texas), winning 53-13. Manvel (Texas) and UCLA commit William Lockett have a bye this weekend. Lakeland (Fla.) Christian running back T.J. Simmons is out for the season with a broken leg and missed the 41-20 win over Kissimmee (Fla.) Liberty. Lodi (Calif.) Tokay receiver L.J. Reed is still out after transferring from Cosumnes Oaks and sat out the 35-6 loss to Modesto (Calif.) Downey. San Leandro (Calif.) athlete Stephen Johnson is out indefinitely with a foot injury and missed the 28-17 loss to San Jose (Calif.) Bellarmine.
