UCLA Prospect Preview: Week Six

OCT. 10 -- A look at the games this weekend involving UCLA commits and recruits in Week Six...

Game of the Week: Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei vs. Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
It's a rematch of the CIF-SS Pac-5 Finals from a year ago in the Trinity League opener for both schools. Bosco is led by the nation's top quarterback, Josh Rosen, UCLA's quarterback commit. The Braves have a slew of stars in their sophomore and junior classes too, namely four-star 2016 running back Sean McGrew and D.J. Morgan, a safety/receiver. Mater Dei has 2016 four-star lineman Frank Martin, who said this week his best relationship is with Bruin coaches, as well as Duke commit Ben Humphreys at linebacker.

Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North vs. Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West
Clovis West has the West's No. 1 prospect in the 2016 class, five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly, who the Bruins have high on their 2016 board. They also boast 2016 four-star receiver Darrian Owens, who the Bruins have also offered. The Broncos come in loaded with one of the Central Section's best teams and they have a pair of Pac-12 commits plus several other D-I prospects on their team. Bolu Olorunfunmi, a three-star running back committed to UCLA, heads into his third year as the starter in the backfield and rushed for 130 yards last week in his season debut. Fullback Westin Hatcher, who leads the way for Bolu, is a Top 5 fullback in the West. Defensively, Bransin Johnson, Malachi Foote and Noruwa Obanor are a part of a secondary that has all three with D-I offers. Linebacker Hayden Haupt has a number of offers too. Scout 100 defensive tackle Jacob Daniel, a commit to USC, is the top defender on the Broncos and returns to action this weekend.

Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian vs. Thousand Oaks (Calif.)
Last week, Oaks' 2016 receiver Michael Pittman committed to the Bruins and he leads Oaks' strong younger classes, with running back Gil'Scott Jackson and freshman quarterback Matt Corral.

Santa Margarita (Calif.) vs. Capistrano (Calif.) JSerra
Santa Margarita is led on defense by UCLA commit Rick Wade and on offense by 2016 four-star quarterback K.J. Costello. They also boast sleeper receiver Kyle Sweet, the younger brother of Bruin receiver Logan Sweet. JSerra has 2016 Scout 300 offensive lineman Luke Wattenberg, who has a UCLA offer and Yale commit D.J. Bailey who plays outside linebacker.

Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou vs. Honolulu (Hawaii) Damien
Punahou is home to two Scout 300 prospects that UCLA is recruiting, offensive lineman Semisi Uluave and defensive end Canton Kaumatule, who's also playing tackle. Kamehameha has Oregon commit Dylan Kane in their secondary and BYU linebacker verbal Mika Tafua, who UCLA continues to evaluate.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly vs. Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan
Poly is loaded all over and could have their most talented teams in years. DB Iman Marshall is one of the nation's top corners and will see time at receiver as well. Defensive lineman Joseph Wicker can play inside or outside, and has ten sacks in the first three games and that led UCLA to offer him last month. Defensive back Colin Samuel gives the Jackrabbits two of the biggest and most talented corners in the state. Josh Love is a smooth, efficient quarterback and junior receiver Jack Jones, who UCLA offered at their camp this summer, is one of the most explosive players in the state. A week ago, Poly scored 99 points against Compton.

Orange (Calif.) Lutheran vs. Anaheim (Calif.) Servite
The Lancers have UCLA target Keisean Lucier-South on defense, and he'll visit Michigan this weekend. Servite has receiver target Equanimeous St. Brown, a four-star recruit the Bruins are recruiting plus his younger brother, Osiris St. Brown, a 2017 four-star, with four-star quarterback Travis Waller, a commit to Oregon, on offense. Defensively, linebacker Jack Savage, the three-star linebacker who's the son of UCLA baseball coach John Savage, anchors the Friars.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman vs. Las Vegas (Nev.) Durango
The Gaels have a five-star commit to the Bruins in tight end Alize Jones, the West's top player at the position. Gorman also has UCLA target Cordell Broadus at receiver and 2017 quarterback Tate Martell, a Washington commit, now completely running the Gaels offense. Another 2017 four-star is receiver Tyjon Lindsey, a versatile all-purpose weapon

Upland (Calif.) vs. La Verne (Calif.) Damien
UCLA linebacker commit Josh Woods is part of a talented Upland team which features two Washington State commits, Kameron Powell and Tyler Hilinski and 2017 four-star athlete Nathan Tilford, who has a UCLA offer already. Damien is paced by running back Dylan Thigpen, a 2016 three-star who is the younger brother of former Bruin running back Damien Thigpen.

Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton vs. West Jordan (Utah)
Brighton has the state's top prospect, and one of UCLA's primary targets, Osa Masina, leading them offensively and defensively.

Others:
Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde and UCLA offensive line commit Tevita Halalilo topped Moreno Valley (Calif.) Valley View, 49-0. Lodi (Calif.) Tokay receiver and UCLA commit L.J. Reed has been ruled eligible after his mid-summer transfer and Tokay will play Tracy (Calif.). Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward and UCLA commit Breland Brandt take on Calabasas (Calif.) Viewpoint. Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis and UCLA commit Fred Ulu-Perry have a bye this weekend, so Ulu-Perry will take his official visit to UCLA. Herriman (Utah) offensive lineman and UCLA verbal Andre James has a bye this weekend. DeSoto (Texas) and UCLA commit Bryce English play Mansfield (Texas). UCLA commit William Lockett and Manvel (Texas) look to stay unbeaten against Pearland (Texas) Dawson. Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy and UCLA commit Victor Alexander play Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby. Lakeland (Fla.) Christian running back T.J. Simmons is out for the season with a broken leg and will be out for their game with Williston (Fla.). San Leandro (Calif.) athlete Stephen Johnson is out indefinitely with a foot injury and will miss their league game with Berkeley (Calif.).
