Recruiting is officially picking up for 2016 running back Tray Staten.
”I have offers from Virginia and UCLA,” said Tray Staten. “I’m also getting recruiting by Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Florida, Stanford, Texas, Georgia, NC State and Florida. They’re all sending me a bunch of mail, but I think Virginia Tech and Arkansas could be next to offer.
His first offer came in UCLA.
”I was surprised, but excited when I got the offer,” said the 5-foot-9, 195-pound Staten. “I’ve always wanted to visit California and I’m definitely interested in UCLA. I like their academics and tradition.
”(Quarterbacks) coach (Taylor) Mazzone is recruiting me and he actually knows my coach personally. I’m definitely going to visit – probably over Christmas break or next summer.”
Virginia was the latest to offer Staten.
“It felt good to get the offer because I’m from Virginia and it made me really happy,” he said. ”Since they offered, we’ve stayed in touch. I like their tradition and campus.
”I also feel like coach Mike London is doing a really good job and I like the offense they run. My mom and I are going up there to visit during Thanksgiving break."
Staten’s last visit was to NC State.
”I went for the ODU game,” he said. “They wore the black uniforms and I really liked them. The coaches were the main thing that stood out to me on the visit, though.
”I went to camps there growing up and I’ve gotten know (running backs) coach (Desmond) Kitchings and he’s pretty cool. He said they’re still evaluating me, but that they could offer at some point.”
Along with Virginia and UCLA, Staten said he hopes to visit Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Florida and maybe Georgia in the near future. However, he has not set any dates yet.
