OCT. 31 -- A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...

Bruins Hosting West's Best

UCLA will play Arizona on Saturday night in a Pac-12 South clash at the Rose Bowl and will be hosting four players, including three players that are tops at their position in the West.

The highest-rated visitor is also the Bruins' top commit, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco five-star quarterback Josh Rosen, the nation's No. 1 quarterback and the premier passer in the West.

He'll be joined by the West's top receiver, five-star Christian Kirk from Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro, who interestingly, got his first offer from the Bruins almost three years ago when he was a freshman.

The West's top running back, Cameron Scarlett, from Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic, will also be visiting, his fourth official visit.

Rounding out the official visitors is Aledo (Texas) four-star receiver Ryan Newsome.

Big Visit Weekend For the Ducks

Oregon has circled their game in Autzen Stadium with Stanford since the schedule was released.

The battle for the Pac-12 North (the two teams have combined to win the last five conference championships) will be witnessed by a number of elite official visitors.

The Ducks have seven visitors, two of them commits, two of them five-stars, coming to Eugene. The nation's No. 1 cornerback, Kendall Sheffield from Missouri City (Texas) Marshall will be joined by Orange (Calif.) Lutheran five-star outside linebacker Keisean Lucier-South from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran.

Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou has alum DeForest Buckner starting on the defensive line for the Ducks and two current members of the Buffanblu will be visiting in four-star offensive guard Semisi Uluave and four-star defensive end Canton Kaumatule.

Destrehan (La.) running back Kirk Merrit, a four-star from the Bayou, will also be visiting officially.

The two Oregon commits set to trip are Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star offensive guard Zach Okun and Mission Viejo (Calif.) Trabuco Hills tight end Jacob Breeland.

More Official Visitors This Weekend
A number of other prospects from the West will be taking official visits this weekend.

Arizona State will take on Utah in a key Pac-12 South matchup and has three official visitors expected in Tempe, headlined by Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman four-star receiver Cordell Broadus. He'll be joined by City College of San Francisco (Calif.) offensive linemen Malik Cuellar and Dominic Desouza.

Nebraska will host two California prospects in Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive guard Zach Robertson and La Mirada (Calif.) receiver Tony Brown.

Ohio State will host Draper (Utah) Corner Canyon offensive tackle Branden Bowen, a commit to Utah.

Texas A&M will bring in the top safety in the West, Encino (Calif.) Crespi four-star Marvell Tell.

  • Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman safety Nicco Fertitta, a Notre Dame commit and tight end Alize Jones, a UCLA commit, were presented their U.S. Army All-American Bowl jerseys and will play in the game in San Antonio in January 2015.

    The top prospect in the Northwestern most part of the continental U.S., Rapp picked up his fourth offer in the last couple weeks, and third from the Pac-12 when Arizona State offered him. The Sun Devils followed Boise State, Oregon and Washington, who all offered in October, in offering the rising junior prospect.

  • Herriman (Utah) defensive end Harris LaChance committed to Utah State.
  • Pago Pago (American Samoa) Leone defensive tackle Elu Aydon committed to Wisconsin.

  • Riverside (Calif.) College cornerback Treshon Broughton was offered by Washington State.

  • Riverside (Calif.) College receiver Isaac Whitney was offered by USC.
  • Calabasas (Calif.) offensive lineman Ve'ehala Tuihalamaka was offered by New Mexico and San Diego State.
  • Long Beach (Calif.) Poly defensive end Joseph Wicker was offered by Oklahoma.
