Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral cornerback Cameron Haney (5-11, 170), is one of the rising corner prospects in the West.
And hometown UCLA is keeping a close eye on him.
“I was invited to the Arizona game and I liked it a lot,” said Haney. “UCLA has a good family atmosphere and I liked the way the defense plays and the whole vibe, I really like it.”
Haney has watched former Cathedral defensive back Anthony Jefferson flourish in the Bruin secondary too.
“Yeah, it’s been cool seeing Anthony play well and have that field goal return too,” said Haney.
Haney has been in frequent contact with defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin too.
“I talk to Coach Meat a lot and he has been talking to me a lot about UCLA,” said Haney. “He said to keep playing hard and keep doing what I’m doing and an offer could be coming.”
So what would an offer from the hometown school do for Haney?
“I still think I would go through the process and I probably wouldn’t commit right away to them,” said Haney. “But I definitely would consider them more than other schools because they’re close to home. I just don’t want to make any commitments yet.”
Haney has taken official visits to Nevada and to Washington State and he plans to visit Arizona State later this month.
“I’m going to set the Arizona State visit for two weeks (when the Sun Devils host Oregon State on November 22),” said Haney.
Corner isn’t the only position Haney wants to play.
“I want to play corner and also be really busy on special teams as a kick and punt returner,” said Haney.
Haney said he’s wide open in his recruitment.
“I don’t have a top three right now, I’m considering everyone the same,” said Haney.
Academically, Haney has a 3.0 and will take the SAT on Saturday.
