Prospect Recap: Week Ten

NOV. 11 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week ten of the high school football season...

Game of the Week: Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco def. Santa Margarita (Calif.), 58-34
UCLA commit Josh Rosen put the exclamation point on his Trinity League career, beating the Eagles to go unbeaten for three years in the toughest league on the West Coast. After trailing 28-24 going in to the fourth quarter, the Braves scored 34 points in the fourth quarter to cruise to the win. Rosen was 11-for-18 for 226 and an interception and ran for 45 yards on eight carries. Sean McGrew, the 2016 four-star running back, had two fourth quarter touchdowns and four on the night and finished with 213 yards on 16 carries. Santa Margarita 2016 four-star quarterback K.J. Costello was 24-for-42 for 290 yards with four touchdown passes and an interception. Rick Wade, the UCLA four-star defensive end, had five tackles in the loss.

Westlake (Calif.) def. Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian, 35-7
Westlake clinched the Marmonte League title by blowing out Oaks Christian by 28 points. 2016 five-star quarterback Malik Henry was 6-for-11 for 127 yards and a touchdown and ran for 55 yards on 12 carries and rushed for two touchdowns. UCLA 2016 receiver recruit Theo Howard caught five of Henry's six completions for 121 yards. Oaks Christian's 2016 four-star receiver Michael Pittman, a UCLA commit, had six catches for 95 yards and five tackles in their final game of the season.

Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North def. Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan, 14-7
The Broncos' Bolu Olorunfunmi, the running back committed to UCLA, ran for 109 yards and the Broncos scored late to win the league title.

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly def. Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson, 46-0
UCLA defensive line target Joseph Wicker had seven tackles and three sacks, upping his season total to 17.5 sacks, Iman Marshall had a tackle and 2016 receiver Jack Jones had five catches for 103 yards and a touchdown to help the Jackrabbits clinch another Moore League title.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman def. Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Oasis, 63-0
UCLA commit Alize Jones had an efficient evening in the Gaels playoff-opener, catching three passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns. UCLA target Cordell Broadus sat out the game with an injury.

Lodi (Calif.) Tokay def. Lodi (Calif.), 48-12
UCLA commit L.J. Reed had a big night, catching four passes for 149 yards and scoring two touchdowns to beat their crosstown rival, Lodi, by 36 in the Grape Bowl.

Upland (Calif.) def. Etiwanda (Calif.), 45-20
UCLA commit Josh Woods ran for 51 yards on nine carries and scored a touchdown and had nine tackles, one for a loss, forced a fumble and had a quarterback hurry to help the Highlanders clinch the Baseline League title. UCLA 2017 target Nathan Tilford had 41 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown and caught a 22-yard touchdown pass in the win.

Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton def. West Valley (Utah) Hunter, 26-21
Brighton got 67 yards on 15 carries and a touchdown from five-star Osa Masina on offense, and saw him rack up 11 tackles, force a fumble and get a sack to move on in the state playoffs.

Manvel (Texas) def. Pearland (Texas), 35-33
UCLA pledge William Lockett had an interception at the most crucial time of the game, picking off a potential game-tying two-point conversion with just over three minutes left. Manvel took the onside kick and ran out the lock to preserve their perfect regular season.

San Leandro (Calif.) and UCLA commit Stephen Johnson, who was out after reaggravating a foot injury, beat Hayward (Calif.) Tennyson, 53-14, to win the West Alameda County Foothill League title. Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde and UCLA commit Tevita Halalilo rolled Riverside (Calif.) Arlington, 28-7. Lakeland (Fla.) Christian running back T.J. Simmons, a UCLA commit still nursing a leg injury, stayed out in the final regular season game, a 41-6 win over Orlando (Fla.) Agape Christian Academy. South Jordan (Utah) Bingham ended the season for Herriman (Utah) and UCLA commit Andre James with a 36-6 win in the Utah State playoffs. Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei ended the 2014 campaign for Orange (Calif.) Lutheran and UCLA target Keisean Lucier-South, beating the Lancers 49-13. Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis and UCLA commit Fred Ulu-Perry have completed their season. Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward and UCLA commit Breland Brandt have completed their season. Tempe (Ariz.) Corona Del Sol and UCLA commit Cassius Peat have completed their season.
