Robertson Recaps ASU Trip

Nov. 18 -- Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Zach Robertson took his second official visit this past weekend when he checked out Arizona State and the Sun Devils made a big impression on the lineman...

Zach Robertson visited Nebraska two weeks ago and was back on the road this past weekend to see Arizona State.

"It was a great trip, I loved everything about it," Robertson said. "Looking back, probably the biggest highlight for me was when Sparky came out and threw the pitchfork down in the middle of the field and the crowd was going crazy, I had chills. The whole game atmosphere was a lot of fun and the offense line was really dominant.

"The next day I was watching film with Coach Thompson and I was even more impressed. Notre Dame has a really good defensive front but ASU got the better of them, especially on the interior. They ran for more yards than they passed for and looked very good. I really like Coach Thompson a lot. He doesn't cuss or swear at the players and has produced a ton of pros. I think he has sent 20 to the NFL and the players on the team love him so that's a big plus."

Robertson said several other things stood out for him other than just the game atmosphere.

"I liked the players a lot, it feels like a family there," Robertson said. "The whole staff, not just Coach Thompson, all seem like great guys. I got to talk to Jamil Douglas a little and was asking him how the coaches are when it's just them and no one else is around. He said they're all great, genuine people. The coaches actually want me for tackle to come in and compete for Jamil's spot. Nick Kelly was my host and he was real cool. I liked being around all the linemen, it's a good group of guys.

"I also liked the city of Tempe and the feel of walking around the campus. It's a beautiful area and I enjoyed the tour, seeing the facilities and the dorms. There really wasn't a single negative about the visit, everything was great and ASU is definitely high on my list right now. I'm going to try and set up a visit to UCLA in the next couple of weeks and I could be ready to make a decision shortly after."

In addition to a possible UCLA visit, Robertson said he's also looking at Ohio State and LSU as possible trip destinations.
