Spencer Talks UCLA, Oregon Offers

NOV. 17 -- It was an exciting Sunday for Monrovia (Calif.) two-way standout Octavius Spencer as the athlete landed scholarship offers from two of his favorite schools...

We talked with Octavius Spencer last week and there was some strong buzz both Oregon and UCLA were starting to pick up interest in him. Fast forward to Sunday and within an hour, both schools threw their hat in the ring and offered a scholarship.

"Man I'm so hyped right now," Spencer said. "Me, my family and my teammates are all really excited, it's pretty incredible to land offers from these two schools. UCLA offered first and I had a feeling they were close. Coach Yarber from UCLA was at my game Friday and Coach Martin has been talking to me for a while too.

"I think at first Coach Martin wanted me for corner but now they like me for receiver after seeing me in person. They mentioned I could come in as an athlete and they would be fighting over me. I really don't have a preference between the two positions, I'll do anything that gets me on the field."

Not long after the UCLA offer came in, Spencer talked with Oregon DB coach, John Neal.

"Coach Neal came and watched me practice last Tuesday," Spencer said. "He told me they liked what they saw and he would be in touch soon. Soon turned out to be today and that offer is huge for me as well. They like me at corner and I'm in the process of setting up an official visit with them.

"I'm not ready to jump on anything right now, I'm excited about where the process is at right now and I want to see who else wants to recruit me. I think with UCLA and Oregon offering, things will probably pick up even more since these are two great programs. I want to take some official visits, really weigh the pros and cons of each school and then I think I'll ready to make a commitment. I'll be at the UCLA-USC game this weekend and then I'll take it from there."
