Quick Recruiting Buzz

NOV. 17 -- There are updates on some prospects, and the official visit list for the USC game takes shape...

*So UCLA offered both Monrovia (Calif.) ATH Octavius Spencer and San Bernardino (Calif) San Gorgonio ATH Nathan Meadors earlier today. Spencer was offered more as a WR/return man and Meadors was offered as a corner/safety. I think UCLA is doing well with both but of the two, I think Meadors could make a quick decision, simply because he was able to visit Boise State this weekend and has something to compare UCLA to. Spencer said he doesn't want to rush anything but was very excited about the offer. Oregon hasn't offered Spencer but could soon. Both players will be at the USC game this weekend.

*Coach Eric Yarber saw La Mirada (Calif.) WR Tony Brown Friday and an offer could come soon although the staff is still evaluating. Brown dropped a ball and fought a couple of others so the concern is whether he's a natural pass catcher or not. I heard he actually looked very good as a big corner, he's a solid 6-1, real fluid and moves well but he wants to play WR in college so an offer would likely come in as a WR/ATH.

*There was some talk that Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman WR Cordell Broadus could take an official  visit this weekend for the USC game but if he does visit, it will likely only be an unofficial. As Tracy pointed out, with Stanford prep starting on Sunday, they're trying to push all official visitors to later in the year.

*Dallas (Texas) Skyline WR Carlos Strickland, who committed to Texas Tech, is back in communication with UCLA and will likely take an OV in January when his season is over. The feeling on Strickland is he may have committed a little too soon and is having some second thoughts, not over his feelings on Tech but that he never made it out to UCLA. He's not the kind of kid who wants a free trip to L.A either, he's a pretty quiet, almost shy kid and that's why some feel he committed so soon, to get the pressure off him. If he does make it out to UCLA, they have a solid chance of flipping him.

We know and have confirmed the following official visitors for the end of the week:

Stephen Johnson, CB/ATH, San Leandro -- Committed
Andre James, OL, Herriman (Utah) -- Committed
William Lockett, DB, Marvell (Tex.) -- Committed
T.J. Simmons, RB, Lakeland (Fla.) Lakeland Christian -- Committed
Josh Wariboko, OL, Oklahoma City (Okla.) Casady
Benning Potoae, DL, Lakewood (Wash.) Lakes

Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian won this weekend, so they'll play next weekend, and the recruits from that school (Committed LB Victor Alexander, LB Jeff Holland, S Ben Edwards, S Kevin Toliver), as of now, won't visit.

As we originally reported, since the Stanford game is the following Friday, the program will need Sunday to prepare, so the visitors will come in Thursday through Saturday.  UCLA wanted to keep the USC weekend to visitors who could come in Thursday-Saturday.
