UCLA Offers Samuel; Will He Commit?

NOV. 17 -- It has been an action-packed 24 hours for Long Beach Poly (Calif.) defensive back Colin Samuel as he landed three new offers, including his first two out of the Pac-12 and a traditional midwest power...

Colin Samuel has been a known commodity for a couple of years with a lot of national interest. He had over double digit offers but still seemed to be flying a little under the radar for his talent level. That has changed in the last 24 hours with offers coming in from Michigan Sunday night and then Washington State and UCLA earlier today.

"Michigan offered and that's a huge one," Samuel said Sunday night. "I've been talking with Coach Manning and Coach Ferigno and their interest has definitely picked up in recent weeks. Coach Ferigno came to my school last Thursday. I thought maybe it was just for Biggie (Iman Marshall) but he said they were interested and then Coach Manning followed me on twitter and said I need to call him.

"I gave him a call and that's when he told me they wanted to offer. I'm definitely going to take an official visit there, me and Biggie are already trying to figure out a date when we go do it together. Michigan has incredible tradition is just a great school so that offer really means a lot."

Earlier today, the Cougs and Bruins became the first Pac 12 schools to offer Samuel.

"First Washington State offered and I was real excited since they're in the Pac 12 and that's the conference I always watch. "They're a good team and have been on me for awhile but just hadn't offered. I would like to take a visit there as well but I haven't had a chance to work out any dates yet since we'r still playing in the playoffs."

The UCLA offer could be big for Samuel as just a week ago, he told us if the Bruins offered, there was a good chance he would jump on it.

"Man, I just might do that," Samuel said. "UCLA is the offer I've always wanted but I want to take my visits first. I talk with Coach Martin a lot and I really like him. UCLA is a good school, close to home and great academically so there's a lot of pluses. I also know if I wait too long and do my visits, that offer might not be around forever so there's a lot for me to think about.

"I'll be at the game with USC this weekend but right now, my main focus is on Crespi since that's who we play on Friday. It's a huge game for us and they're a good team. I'll think about recruiting later, after these last few offers, I obviously have a lot to think about but it's a great position for me to be in and I'm thankful for the opportunity."
