Lucier-South Ready to Announce

Nov. 21 -- Ever since the spring, when recruiting started to heat up for him, Orange Lutheran (Calif.) defensive end/linebacker Keisean Lucier-South consistently said his plan was to take all five official visits and wait to announce until Signing Day. On Thursday, the athlete had a different timeframe in mind...

Keisean Lucier-South is one of the more versatile players out West with the ability to play outside 'backer or defensive end in college depending on how much weight he puts on. He's a very good pass rusher, plays with a motor and just needs to continue to gain size and strength in order to be a dominant player at the next level.

On the recruiting front, Lucier-South has taken official visits to Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon, as well as multiple unofficial visits to UCLA and USC, and said he's ready to make his decision.

"I'm done with trips, I'm ready to make my decision," Lucier-South said. "I know my plan was to wait until Signing Day but I'm ready to do this. I've been going through the process since my sophomore year and it is starting to wear on me a little. People told me it would but I didn't believe it but I'm at a point now where I'm ready to focus on school and basketball and put my decision out there.

"In my head, I know what I want to do. I don't have an exact day picked out but I can say it will be soon. It could be tomorrow, could be next week or next month but it will be soon. I'm excited and it's going to be a nice weight off my back to have this decision over and know where I'll be spending the next four years of my life."

Many feel a quick decision could favor UCLA since it's the school Lucier-South has called his leader as recent as a few months ago.

"UCLA has done a great job recruiting me," Lucier-South said. "I'm not going to name a leader but they have been on me hard from the beginning and I have a great relationship with Coach (Jeff) Ulbrich, Coach (Jim) Mora and the whole staff. I'm very comfortable there, I like the direction the team is going and I like how they want to use me in that Anthony Barr role."

Among his official visits, Oregon is the school that seemed to create the most buzz with Lucier-South.

"Oregon definitely gave me a lot to think about," Lucier-South said. "They fit me really well and I like their defense a lot. They play fast and want me as a hybrid pass rusher who can come off the edge. They have great resources, football-wise and academically, and a great coaching staff that has been there a long time as well."

On USC: "USC has come on as well. They're really doing a great job recruiting me and have been on me hard in recent months. The reason I didn't mention them early is because back in the summer it seemed like they weren't that interested but they're on me hard and I like Coach Wilson a lot. He's a great guy and they have a great staff. I'll be at the game with UCLA this weekend and it should be a great one. I honestly don't know who is going to win that one, they're both great teams and it's going to be a lot of fun to watch."
