"I just want to let everyone know that I just committed to UCLA, "This was a difficult decision for me as I had many difficult choices to make from all the first class universities. I want to thank all the coaches and staff from all of the universities for their gracious hospitality."
Lucier-South, the 6-4, 225-pounder from Orange (Calif.) Lutheran, told Scout.com's Greg Biggins: "Timing just felt right, I wanted to do it in person and this was the perfect time with the USC game on tap.
*"I love Coach (Jeff) Ulbrich and I'm excited to play for him. He's a great guy and a great coach and I know I'll learn a lot from him.
*"I really like Coach (Jim) Mora, too. He has really turned things around at UCLA and I love the direction the program is going. I'm excited about being part of what I feel is going to be a great recruiting class."
Updated, Biggins' full story:
Keisean Lucier-South is one of the nation's premier pass rushers with the ability to play multiple positions in college. He looks more comfortable as a defensive end but is slotted to play outside linebacker for the Bruins. How much weight he puts on will determine where he lines up but he has already put on 10 pounds since the summer and said he's now 6-5, 225 pounds.
The original plan for Lucier-South was to take all five of his visits and announce on Signing Day but the recruiting process began to wear on him and he decided to move up his decision date.
"I just committed to UCLA," Lucier-South said. "I've been leaning to UCLA for a long time and have a great relationship with the coaches. I really like Coach Ulbrich and Coach Mora and I like the system and how I'll be used as well. Location didn't play that big of a role but it's great to be close to home for my family and friends to see me.
"I really like the direction of the program and I'm excited to be a part of it. I have a great comfort level at UCLA and it feels like a second home to me. With basketball starting up for me, I wanted to just focus on that and school and not worry about recruiting. I knew I was going to UCLA so I thought announcing now, before the big game with USC was perfect timing."
Lucier-South took official visits to Michigan, Oklahoma and Oregon as well as multiple unofficial visits to USC and UCLA. Michigan was the childhood favorite and the Ducks gave him a lot to think about but it was always going to be a pretty big upset if he signed with anyone other than UCLA.
"It feels great to be committed and a weigh off my back," Lucier-South said. "I was never stressed over it but it does feel great to put this behind me. I definitely plan to try and recruit other players and hopefully we sign a great class. I definitely enjoyed the recruiting process and never imagined it would be like this but now I'm proud to be a Bruin and ready for this next chapter of my life to get going."
