But that was nothing compared to Saturday night for the four-star offensive tackle from Herriman (Utah), who was back in the Arroyo Seco for UCLA's crosstown rivalry game with USC, as part of his official visit.
"I went there for the Washington game last year, but it wasn't anything like this weekend," said James. It was just crazy. The rivalry game was so intense. It was just a great experience. My visit overall was great. I loved it."
James was hosted by offensive tackle Simon Goines on the visit.
"Simon was my host, but we were with Caleb Benenoch the whole time and I was with Josh Wariboko the whole time too," said James. "The other commits and I were working him pretty hard and I think we have a really good chance with him."
James also got to spend a lot of time with offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.
"I got to talk with Coach Klemm a lot and he wants me to start out at tackle," said James. "He wants the best players on the field and I can play guard too, but he wants me to start out at tackle."
Having been on campus before and at a game before, James had seen a lot of the school, so it was spending time around the players that was what he was most interested in.
"The way the players interacted was something I hadn't seen," said James. "The vibe they gave off was great. I was in the locker room after the game and it was pretty crazy. Seeing that made me want to stay out there. I just loved that whole atmosphere, it was fantastic."
But he said he's 100% a Bruin. "I'm still completely solid to UCLA," said James. "Just with these visits, I'm making sure I haven't missed anything. Its giving me an opportunity to go out and meet new people."
