Ben Edwards is a happy camper after being a part of back to back state championship teams. Last week, Jacksonville Trinity Christian Academy beat Delray Beach American Heritage 27-7. They are once again 3A state champions.
”This is my senior year and my last high school football game so this feels good to go out on top and finish what we started in the ninth grade,” Edwards said. “We worked hard for this and I love my team. I love all these boys.”
Last year Edwards and his teammates beat Clearwater Central Catholic for the title. This time around things came a little harder.
”The second one was definitely harder,” Edwards said. “I think we learned it was harder to repeat. We got everyone’s best game all year. We learned we have to just come out and play hard each week.
”So it was important for us to win this last one because we wanted to go out on top. If we would have lost this game we would have lost our last game. That was not acceptable.”
Edwards, 6-foot-0, 195-pounds, believes the hard work paid off in more ways than one. He considers himself a better all around safety.
”I feel like I can do everything now,” Edwards said. “I can play man. I can play zone. I can play in the box. I really worked hard this year on coverage and believe that part of my game showed a lot of improvement.
Now this three-star prospect has to figure out what his next move is and where he will continue his football career. He was previously committed to Ohio State and Auburn. He has visited quite a few schools but has at least one more visit in mind as he considers a handful of schools.
”I have been to Stanford, Notre Dame and North Carolina,” Edwards said. “I will visit UCLA in January with Victor [Alexander]. I have never been there but have everywhere else. I have a feel for everyone but UCLA so I won’t know about those guys until I get out to UCLA. I want to see what it’s like and if I am comfortable there.“Right now I am considering Notre Dame, Stanford, UCLA, Miami, Ohio State and North Carolina.”
