Long Beach (Calif.) Poly defensive end Joseph Wicker (6-4, 265) was one of the standouts on the first day of U.S. Army All-American Bowl practices.
“It’s a lot of fun out here,” said Wicker. “There is a lot of competition and it has been real intense.”
Intense is a good way to describe Wicker’s recruitment.
“I have one official visit left, and it’s to UCLA on the 23rd of January,” said Wicker. “I’m going to announce on Signing Day.”
Wicker said that he’s focusing on three schools, with two standing out.
“Arizona State, UCLA and Texas Tech are the main three,” said Wicker. “But UCLA and ASU really have my eye right now.”
Wicker said both schools have an idea for how they want to use him.
“Coach (Jackie) Shipp is recruiting me at ASU and he wants me as a three-tech,” said Wicker. “Coach Angus (McClure) and Coach (Kennedy) Polamalu are recruiting me at UCLA and they say just D-Line and they’ll play me anywhere.”
Wicker said he anticipates a handful of in-homes in January.
“Yeah, I think ASU and UCLA coaches and maybe Texas Tech will all be by in January,” said Wicker. “I’ll take my last visit to UCLA, think about it and make up my mind and then decide on Signing Day.”
