Benning Potoae is a great looking prospect with the ability to play multiple spots on the defensive line. At 6-4, 265 pounds, he moves extremely well and has the frame to pack on another 25 pounds or so with ease. He currently plays defensive end but could easily move inside if needed and has shown why he's among the top defensive prospects out West.
"I think I've gotten a little better every day out here," Potoae said. "The practices are three hours long and I was a little tired that first day. I'm still a little out of shape cardio wise. I've been in the weight room non stop getting stronger but endurance wise, I'm not there yet. My get off wasn't where it needs to be but I feel I'm coming along."
On the recruiting front, the talented lineman is down to two schools.
"It's UCLA and Washington for me," Potoae said. "I already visited UCLA and they set the bar really high. They're going to be tough to beat and I have a real good relationship with the coaches. Coach Tuiasosopo has come out twice for home visits and wants to come again after the dead period and bring Coach Mora with him so they're really showing me a lot of love.
"I visit Washington (Jan. 16) and I should be ready to make my commitment the week after that visit. Coach Petersen is a phenomenal coach and has a very high winning percentage. The school is close to home, although location isn't that big of a factor and I like how a lot of the local players are looking at UW now. With guys like Henry Roberts and Chico McClatcher going there and maybe Austin Joyner too, that could definitely play a role for me."
The Semper Fi AA Game will be this Sunday at 6:00 (PST) and will be televised on Fox Sports 1.
