Jan. 9 -- A look at the latest news and notes from out West in this week's notebook...
All-American Game Announcements
Last weekend saw the three major All-American Games take place across the country, and Western players took part in all three of them.
Two of the games had players from the West announce their college commitments, and all four of the announcers picked Pac-12 schools.
Gardena (Calif.) Serra cornerback Stanley Norman announced during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl for Arizona State.
The Sun Devils landed the versatile Norman
Riverside (Calif.) Poly cornerback Ykili Ross announced for USC later in the Army Bowl.
Encino (Calif.) Crespi safety Marvell Tell would also announce during the Army Bowl for the Trojans.
The next night, Marysville (Wash.) Pilchuck cornerback Austin Joyner came full circle and announced for Washington.
More Commitments This Week
Despite playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Newhall (Calif.) Hart receiver Trent Irwin didn't want to announce in San Antonio, instead choosing to wait till he was back in Southern California.
And the four-star, who had been down to Arizona State and Stanford since the summer, chose the Cardinal over the Sun Devils, a huge boost to Stanford's recruiting efforts.
Irwin is headed to The Farm
Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde quarterback and Semper Fidelis All-American Sheriron Jones also opted to wait until after his game to make his commitment.
The one-time Florida verbal, who opened things up when Will Muschamp was fired, is still going to play in the SEC, but the four-star announced for Tennessee.
And his Semper Fi teammate and Rancho Verde lineman, Tevita Halalilo, opened up his recruitment from UCLA, looked to be leaning towards Arizona State, but reaffirmed his Bruin verbal late in the week.
In the Pac-12, Kahuku (Hawaii) tight end Tuli Wily-Matagi flipped his verbal from Utah to Oregon State, where a couple of the coaches recruiting him to the Utes moved on to Oregon State and Granite Hills (Calif.) quarterback Seth Collins also flipped to the Beavers, from San Jose State.
The Beavers did lose a commitment, though, when San Ramon (Calif.) California tight end Matt Snyder switched his pledge to Nebraska, where he'll follow Mike Riley and his staff, whom he originally committed to when they were with the Beavers.
Osa Masina, the five-star linebacker from Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton, will announce his decision on January 23rd at his school. Masina will choose from Arizona State, UCLA and USC.
Long Beach (Calif.) Poly five-star cornerback Iman Marshall will cram four official visits in the month of January. Marshall has already visited Notre Dame but this month will visit Florida State (Jan. 16), Michigan (Jan. 19), LSU (Jan. 23) and Oregon (Jan. 30) and will possibly visit the local schools, USC and UCLA, unofficially this month.
One of the West's top receivers in a loaded 2016 class, Dylan Crawford, is transferring from La Canada (Calif.) St. Francis to Santa Margarita (Calif.). The arrival at Santa Margarita will put Crawford on the same team as K.J. Costello, the four-star quarterback. Crawford and Costello have been on the same 7v7 team, BBT Athletics, for the past two years and will bolster an already strong Eagles squad.
After committing to Washington in the summer of 2012, before he was going in to eighth grade, Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman 2017 quarterback Tate Martell decommitted from the Huskies and has opened up his recruitment. The four-star has a number of offers already but figures to land more in the next two years.
Santa Monica (Calif.) College is the likely destination for former Washington quarterback Troy Williams. The 2013 four-star out of Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne, Williams started one game for the Huskies this fall, but will transfer closer to home to play his redshirt sophomore season and he'll be reunited with his high school offensive coordinator, Tim Kaub, now the OC at Santa Monica College.
Beau Bisharat - RB - Carmichael (Calif.) Jesuit - 2016
One of the West's top jumbo two-way prospects, Bisharat picked up two more offers, from Nebraska and Arizona State. The four-star now has offers from Arizona State, Cal, Colorado, Eastern Washington, Nebraska, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
Gardena (Calif.) Serra tight end Caleb Wilson committed to Old Dominion.
San Jose (Calif.) Archbishop Mitty cornerback Dakari Monroe committed to San Jose State.
Oakland (Calif.) Skyline linebacker Jacquese Steen committed to Army.
Phoenix (Ariz.) Pinnacle offensive tackle Cole Delgado committed to Air Force.
Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman offensive lineman Jackson Perry committed to Vanderbilt.
Littleton (Colo.) Chatfield defensive tackle Matt Gaiter committed to Air Force.
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North 2016 linebacker Caleb Kelly was offered by Oregon.
Portland (Ore.) David Douglas 2016 defensive lineman Osa Odighizuwa was offered by UCLA.
