Will Meadors Visit Oregon?

Jan. 13 -- The visit to Duck land is up in the air, and the San Bernardino athlete has a leader...

Nathan Meadors has a hectic month ahead of him with visits to Notre Dame (Jan. 23) and UCLA (Jan. 30) scheduled and a third one hanging in the balance.

That visit would be to Oregon on the 16th, but after talking with Ducks secondary coach John Neal, Meadors is unsure if he’ll get the chance to visit due to the lingering impact of the sanctions imposed on the program back in 2013 that have limited the amount of official visitors they can host this season.

“He was just telling me that before dead period a couple kids went and wasted some of their trips because they committed somewhere else a couple of days later,” he said.

If Meadors does visit, he will be focused on a few key factors.

“I’m really going to be looking forward to my bond with the players and the coaches I’m going to be around,” he said. “I want to be able to make sure I’m comfortable there and basically make it my second home.”

UCLA is his current leader, but the Ducks have come on late and made an impact with Meadors. Neal offered the 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety right before Christmas following a meeting with him at the end of the season. The offer was a big one for Meadors.

“I was excited,” he said. “Being offered by the number two team in the country at that time was pretty amazing and I just felt proud for being recognized by such a prestigious school like Oregon.”

Meadors explained that Neal was impressed by his tackling and his abilities at the quarterback position, which gave Meadors an advantage in knowing what was going on at all times on both sides of the ball, among other attributes.

“He really liked how my change of direction is real good,” he said. “I’m pretty fast. He told me that me being an athlete and being able to play all over the field really helped him offer me a scholarship.”

Outside of the possible Oregon in-home visit, Notre Dame and UCLA are slated to stop by during the month. He has set in-home dates with Cal (Jan. 14) and Boise State (Jan. 15) also.
