Jan. 14 -- Scout takes a look at five recruitments of prospects from the West outside the Scout 300 that are quietly lurking a little bit below the radar...
There are five recruits from the West outside the Scout 300 who's recruitment may be flying a bit under the radar, but are still being heavily courted by a number of schools and will take official visits in the coming weeks.
Scout takes a look at these five under-the-radar recruitments and who's still in the mix.
Lavan Alston | WR | Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure
Scheduled Visits: Washington State
(1/16) and Nebraska
Alston had silently committed to Oregon State
in November while on an official visit. A couple of days later, Mike Riley left Corvallis to be the head coach at Nebraska. The Huskers offered Alston not long after and he'll visit the last weekend before Signing Day. This weekend, Alston will visit Washington
State. He's also visited California
could also squeeze in a visit the weekends between his Washington State and Nebraska visits.
Kevin Scott | DT | Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian
Scheduled Visits: Purdue
(1/16), San Diego State
(1/23) and Ole Miss
In just his first year playing football, Scott has seen his recruitment blow up to the point where he now has offers from the Big Ten, SEC and Big 12. He'll visit Purdue this weekend and then San Diego State next weekend before he closes out the visit slate with a trip to Ole Miss. USC
will also have him in for an unofficial visit. Few players have more upside than Scott, who just turned 17 at the beginning of the season.
James Empey | OG | American Fork (Utah)
Utah (1/16) and Oregon State (1/30)
Empey has been focusing on three schools for a while now. Washington, Utah, and BYU are still jockeying for the three-star guard. Oregon
State has also entered the picture with a new coaching staff that Empey is very familiar with and he may trip to Corvallis the last weekend before Signing Day. He has been a Utah lean for a while, but has remained open to BYU, Washington and Oregon State.
Fotu Leiato | S | Steilacoom (Wash.)
Washington State (1/16) and UCLA
Leiato probably caught more national attention this year than any other recruit out West. It started when his highlight film
went viral and was one of the most viewed highlights of anyone in the 2015 class. Along the way, Leiato has racked up a number of offers, including from Michigan State
, UCLA and Washington State among others. He'll visit Washington State this weekend and UCLA the last weekend before Signing Day. He plans to take a visit the weekend between, but where it will be has yet to be determined.
Nathan Meadors | S | San Bernardino (Calif.) San Gorgonio
Oregon (1/16), Notre Dame
(1/23) and UCLA (1/30)
End of January
Meadors has visited Boise State
and California and both will be in his home this week. He's set to visit Oregon this weekend, but told e-Duck.com
that the visit may not happen because the Ducks are running out of available visits. He will visit Notre Dame on the 23rd and round out his visit schedule with a trip to UCLA, who leads for Meadors, the weekend before Signing Day.
