Lonta Hobbs, RB, 5-11, 205, Clarsksville (Tex.) High, said he's already arranged to officially visit UCLA September 22nd for the Ohio State game.
"I'm really looking forward to it," Hobbs said. "I've never been to California."
Hobbs, who ran for 996 yards while scoring 12 touchdowns last season and says he runs a 4.47 the 40, said his favorite schools right now are UCLA, Texas A&M, Nebraska, TCU, Oklahoma and UTEP. He said that UCLA, TCU and UTEP have offered scholarships. "If I choose to go out of state, it'll be UCLA or Nebraska," Hobbs said. "I think I'd like to leave, anywhere out of state really."
Who's recruiting Hobbs the hardest? "UCLA," he said. "I'm getting the most mail from them."
Hobbs said he intends to visit Nebraska and Oklahoma, but hasn't finalized the dates for those visits. But he's not sure he'll be able to take all his visits by the time he'd like to commit. "I'd want to get it over before basketball season. For sure by January."
Hobbs said he's looking for a school that has a good academic reputation and football coaches that he feels comfortable with. "I'd like coaches that I can communicate well with. Just not in football, but in knowing each other. And I'd like to go somewhere with a really good offensive line."
Carrying a 3.19 GPA, Hobbs said he scored a qualifying 17 on his ACT exam.
