Brown recaps visit to UCLA

Jan. 18 -- La Mirada (Calif.) wide out Tony Brown visited UCLA over the weekend. Did the Bruins do enough to pry him away from Texas Tech?

Tony Brown committed to Texas Tech back in mid-December over Colorado and UCLA. He took his visit to Westwood this past weekend to give the local school one last shot.

"I had a great visit and really enjoyed myself there," Brown said. "I had a lot of fun with the players on the team, the recruits I visited with and the coaches. I spent a lot of time with Coach Yarbs (Yarber) and Coach Mora and they're both great guys.

"That was probably the highlight of the visit for me, getting to know the coaches better and seeing what they're like. They really made me feel comfortable and wanted so that was big for me. Coach Yarbs said he wants athletes like me who can play plays and have good character and said I would fit in really well."

Brown said fellow receiver Alex Van Dyke was his host.

"All the players treated me like I was already part of the team," Brown said. "It was cool, they have a real close knit group there and I got along well with everyone. I've been up to UCLA before but never like this. This was really the first time I had a chance to tour the whole campus and get a better feel for the place.

"I'll be honest, there were times on the visit that I was tempted to jump over to UCLA but I'm sticking with Texas Tech. I'm still going to think about it some more but right now, my commitment is still solid and I feel good about Tech.

"They'll be over for a home visit this Thursday and I know UCLA wants to come in too but I haven't locked in a date yet. I just really like Tech a lot and had a great trip there. I like the offense and the opportunity to play early there so that's why they're still my school."
