ASU Visit Opens Holiday's Eyes

Jan. 20 -- San Marcos (Calif.) Mission Hills defensive back Dechaun Holiday took an official visit to Arizona State over the weekend and said the Sun Devils gave him a lot to think about...

After having to cancel a couple of earlier visits, Dechaun Holiday was finally able to take his first official trip of the year this past weekend to check out Arizona State.

"It was a great trip, it was honestly better than I expected," Holiday said. "I took an unofficial trip to ASU over the summer so I had already seen the campus and the football facilities before. I have a good relationship with the coaches but the big difference about this visit was being able to hang out with the players and get to know those guys better.

"Armand Perry was my host and I actually knew him already so I requested to have him. The players were all really cool to be around, that was probably the highlight of the visit. They have a great group of guys and they really made me feel at home the whole visit. I connected with them really well and that's what I'm looking for in a school."

Holiday said he spent some quality one on one time with the coaches to get a better idea of how he'll be used in the defense.

"I talked a lot with Coach Ball and Coach Graham," Holiday said. "They run an aggressive scheme and they see me as a boundary corner that can play press or play off. I think that fits my strengths pretty well, I'm an aggressive, physical player and that fits in to their defense pretty well.

"I had already done the academic tour on my summer visit but I still talked to some of the advisers and did the tour with the other recruits that were there. I'm definitely giving ASU hard look right now. I was always considering them but after this visit, my interest has gone way up. They're going to be in it until the very end."

Holiday will finish off the month with two more Pac 12 trips and then he'll be set for a Signing Day decision.

"I'm going to Washington this weekend and UCLA on the 30th," Holiday said. "I had a home visit today with Coach Petersen, Coach Lake and Coach Paopao and that went really well. I locked in my official visit with them during my visit and I'm excited to go check them out and see what they have to offer.

"Coach Meat (Martin) from UCLA came by last Friday for a visit and I think ASU will be coming next week. That UCLA visit will be my last and I'm down to these three Pac 12 schools right now. After my last visit, I'll take the next few days to think things over and then I'll make my commitment on Signing Day. I have three great choices and it's going to be very tough so the next few weeks will be big for me. "
