We're getting close and things are starting to get down to it here with just under a week to go until National Signing Day.
First, in collecting information from various sources, I've now concluded that UCLA has a really great chance of retaining all of the recruits committed to them. That means, as of right now, it looks like they'll hold onto Ryan Newsome, Cassius Peat, Josh Woods and Victor Alexander.
I think it's relatively safe (as safe as it can get in recruiting) to say that UCLA is looking very good to get:
OL Josh Wariboko
DL Joseph Wicker
DB Dechaun Holiday
DB Nathan Meadors
I wouldn't necessarily put running back Sotonye Jamabo and tight end Chris Clark on that list. From all that I gathered UCLA leads for both but it's a matter of the Bruins hanging on until next Wednesday. It's why Jim Mora has dispatched Kennedy Polamalu and Noel Mazzone, respectively, to practically camp out with Jamabo and Clark all day Friday.
I'd say there is a diminishing chance UCLA gets DE Tyrone Wheatley. From what I'm hearing he is going to determine his decision a great deal on wanting to play tight end, and that would mean somewhere else besides UCLA, and perhaps USC.
We have now heard from some very tied-in sources in Texas that Maea Teuhema will almost certainly sign with LSU. Teuhema has a unique family dynamic, with his guardian calling the shots, and the guardian wanting him for personal reasons to go to LSU. The word is that the guardian called and informed the UCLA coaches of this. Teuhema doesn't turn 18 until pretty late in 2015 so it makes it unlikely he would wait to be able to not need the guardian's signature on the NLI.
UCLA's chances with LB Roquan Smith are pretty uncertain at this point. Every source from here to Georgia feels he'll ultimately go to Georgia but they think UCLA has a chance. His official visit this weekend is going to be one to watch closely, but even if it's a 10 we still think he ends up signing with UGA.
Jim Mora met with WR Cordell Broadus Tuesday and his father, Snoop. Sources are saying that UCLA looks to be right back in it, despite the two sides not really having a relationship for a couple of months. ASU had developed into the leader but Broadus will officially visit UCLA this weekend and that will be a big factor in the decision.
We've heard Cordell Broadus, the receiver from Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, isn't visiting UCLA this weekend.
We actually don't know where he'll be. His father, Snoop, is having a concert in Glendale, Arizona, tonight, so it was thought he could be in the area and would unofficially visit ASU (he had previously visited them officially).
We were told that, even though he's not visiting UCLA this weekend, UCLA is still a big contender for him.
From what I've heard, it sounds like UCLA's recruitment of WR Tony Brown and DL Gary Baker are over.
It still is the same story with DB Iman Marshall -- many people keep insisting UCLA has a chance, but many think it's a smokescreen. In fact, from what we've heard lately, the UCLA coaches told people at Long Beach Poly they think it's a smokescreen.
