Scout.com has confirmed that Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton defensive tackle Garrett Rand has received a new BCS offer, bringing him to eight overall.
"UCLA offered me today," Rand said.
"We talked about where I would fit in their program and how good of an education it is at UCLA," Rand said. "We also talked about all of their defensive linemen that are going to the NFL."
Whether Rand, who is 6-3 and 25, makes it to the professional ranks obviously remains to be seen, but the Bruin coaches had high praise for his game and his strength -- Rand boasts a 500+ pound bench press.
"They like that I can play anywhere on the line and how quick and powerful I am," Rand said.
Rand, who had 10 sacks last season, admits he still needs to do some research on the UCLA program but looks forward to doing so.
"I have received a bunch of mail from them and have talked with them on Facebook and Twitter," Rand said. "But I don't know much about them other then they can play some good football."
Rand says he has no unofficial visits planned yet but is considering UCLA, Washington and Michigan State.
