Martin Planning UCLA Visit

Feb. 27 -- Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei offensive lineman Frank Martin picked up an offer from USC this week, and is also planning a UCLA visit...

Frank Martin is one of the region's top lineman and has been racking up offers since last spring. He hit 24 earlier in the week and on Thursday, he landed No. 25 from the school he called his 'dream school.'

"I just picked up USC," Martin said. "I'm very excited about this one obviously, I've always liked USC. When I was young, that's the school I dreamed of playing for. I used to envision myself running out of the tunnel on to the Coliseum, I even cried when they lost to Texas in the Rose Bowl.

"I knew it was coming because Coach (Steve Sarkisian) told me three weeks ago at Junior Day I would be offered but they just wanted to hire an OL coach first. I talked to Coach (Bob) Connelly today, that was actually the second time I talked to him but the other time was when he was still at Oklahoma State.

"He told me he liked my film a lot and feels he can develop me in to the next Trojan All-American lineman. Then I talked with Sark and he's the one who offered me the scholarship. I talked to Coach Helton too and I have a good relationship with all those guys. Coach Connelly said he wants me to keep working hard and wants players who want to the best. I don't know him that well right now but we'll built that relationship so I have a better idea of who he is as a coach."

Despite growing up a big Trojan fan, Martin said that won't play a role in his decision.

"No, this is a business decision for me," Martin said. "When you become a recruit, everything changes. You have to look at all your options and I have 24 other schools that I'm going to consider heavily as well.

"Just because you grow up liking a certain school, it doesn't mean it's the best fit for you. I want to go where I can grow the most as a player and person and where I have a real good relationship with my OL coach. I'm not close to making a decision, I'm going to take my time, do my official visits and then when I'm ready, that's when I'll do it."

Martin has a couple of unofficial visits coming up.

"I'm going to UCLA next friday (March 6)," Martin said. "I have a great relationship with Coach (Adrian) Klemm, the OL coach there. I'm looking forward to coming up with my family and touring the school and talking more with the coaches.

"Then the following Sunday, I'm doing the NIKE Camp and hoping to make it to The Opening. We've had guys two years in a row make it with Jonathan Lockett and Ben Humphreys last year. The week after that, I'm going to visit USC. I was just there for Junior Day but this time, they have a line coach in place so I'll be able to sit down with Coach Connelly and get to know him better.

"Hopefully I can visit a few more schools but these are the only ones I know I'll be doing. Then when the season starts, I'll start to narrow my list down and start taking my official visits. That's the plan for me right now."
