Vegas Pylon 7-on-7: Biggins Notebook

Feb. 28 -- Check out news and notes on the west's #1 prospect Caleb Kelly, a big UCLA target, Trevon Sidney, and more from the Vegas Pylon 7-on-7...

*Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West linebacker Caleb Kelly (Pictured above) is the top rated player out West but said he hasn't been focusing too much on recruiting yet.

"I haven't talked to too many coaches yet," Kelly said. "I've mainly been focusing on my team and getting ready for 7-on-7 but I'm going to start calling some coaches soon here. I've taken unofficial visits to Oklahoma, California, Stanford, UCLA and USC and will trip to Michigan (Mar. 13) and Alabama (July 13.)

"I'm excited to see the Big House and all the tradition at Michigan. I have a lot of respect for Coach Harbaugh as well, he's a great coach. 'Bama just wins and I love how hard they go. The coaches don't mess around there, they'll yell and scream and do whatever it takes to get the best out of you. I'm planning to take all five of my official visits and won't commit anywhere until Signing Day."

The feeling from some close to Kelly is Oklahoma and UCLA could be the teams to beat but there's obviously a long way to go between now and Signing Day.

*Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita quarterback K.J. Costello could be closing in on a decision.

"I think it will happen sometime in March," Costello said. "I don't think I'm going to take any more visits, I have a good idea what I want to do. With Stanford and USC, I was always going back and forth every other day but I'm pretty set now and it's just a matter of doing it.

"There's a lot of factors that go in to your decision but I'm just going to follow my heart and do what I feel is best for me. I'm not going to let things like depth charts or playing right away influence me, I'm just going to pick the school that I think is the best fit for me. I'll do something at our school, that's not really my style but that's what the school wants to do so that's how I'll announce it."

*La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat wide out Tyler Vaughns said one school is clearly recruiting him harder than anyone else.

"It's still USC, I talk to those coaches almost every day," Vaughns said. "Tee Martin is my main recruiter and we talk all the time but I also talk with Coach Nansen and even Coach Sark a little.

"My most recent offer was from Georgia and that's pretty big. It's my first SEC offer and I would like to take a visit there. I might do an unofficial visit to Michigan in the spring and hopefully they offer. Right now, my plan is to try and take all five visits during the season and then make my commitment at the Army AA Game."

*Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita wide out Dylan Crawford said he's hoping to make a summer decision.

"Right now, the schools recruiting me the hardest are USC, Michigan, Stanford, California and Washington," Crawford said. "I don't have a leader right now, I'm still open and hopefully I can take a few visits over the spring and summer.

"I'm going to try and get to Stanford over the next couple of weeks and I want to visit Michigan again as well. I went last year and loved it there. That's like a dream offer and I love the tradition and the facilities they have there. Coach Harbaugh is a winner, that's all you can say there. I'm graduating early and if I make it in to The Opening, I'm going to commit there."

*Fontana (Calif.) Summit athlete Damian Alloway said he wants to take all five official visits before he makes his decision.

"Right now, UCLA is recruiting me the hardest," Alloway said. "Oregon, USC and Notre Dame are getting involved too and I think they could be close to offering as well. I'm planning on taking a few unofficial visits and will be at UCLA March 13. I want to check out Arizona State and Notre Dame as well.

"As for official visits, I know I want to visit Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU, Washington and California. My top schools right now are UCLA, California, Washington and Utah. I like the West Coast but will leave if the right school comes along. I'm planning to run track in college too and all the schools I'm talking with are totally fine with that."

Alloway clocked a 10.6-100m last year and is hoping to run in the 10.4 range this year.

*La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat athlete Trevon Sidney is currently rated as a corner but will likely move to receiver the next time rankings are updated by Scout.

"I like receiver, that's where I would like to play in college," Sidney said. "That's where my love and passion is and where I put in the most work.

"The schools recruiting me the hardest right now are USC, Washington, UCLA and Notre Dame. I'm going to do some summer visits but don't have anything set yet. I'll visit the local schools for spring ball and then I'll take some official visits in the fall. I'm playing in the Army AA Game and I'm planning to make my commitment there."

*Scottsdale (Ariz. Saguaro athlete Byron Murphy is easily among the region's best two-way players and is getting looks on both sides of the ball.

"I've been to USC for Junior Day and loved it there," Murphy said. "This weekend I'll be at Arizona for Junior and on April 18, I'll be at Washington for their Junior Day. I'm going to visit Texas A&M this summer too but I don't have a set date yet.

"Washington is recruiting me the hardest right now. I talk to Coach Paopao almost every day. I talk with UA and ASU regularly as well. As for my decision, I may graduate early and if so, I'll commit pretty early. If I don't, I'll take all five of my trips and go through the process. I know I'll visit Flordia State and Ohio State for sure. If Clemson offers, I'll visit there too. That's the one offer I'm waiting on, I love Sammy Watkins so that offer would be huge for me."
