Las Flores (Calif.) Tesoro quarterback Devon Modster (6-2, 213) was one of the better passers at the Pylon Elite 7v7 in Las Vegas last weekend. The four-star, who will be at the Los Angeles The Opening Regional next weekend, prepped for the event by playing for the Frat Boyz in Vegas.
“It was a fun experience and just a good opportunity to throw it against some good DBs and play with some good receivers,” said Modster. “I came last year but I have more confidence this year.”
And before Modster camps next Sunday, he’ll take an unofficial visit to UCLA on Saturday.
“I visit UCLA on March 7th,” said Modster. “I’m being recruited by Taylor Mazzone and we talk a lot. Hopefully they offer on my visit.”
Modster said he wouldn’t commit right away if he was offered, but an offer would be significant.
“An offer would make a big difference for UCLA because they’re one of the top programs in the Pac-12,” said Modster. “I wouldn’t commit right away, but it’s definitely a top school I’d like to go to.”
Cal offered earlier this year but got a quarterback commitment from Armani Rogers.
“Cal said when it gets to spring, they would see if they’re taking two quarterbacks or just one,” said Modster. “So we’ll see what happens there.”
Utah could also be close to offering.
“My coach (Matt Poston), said Utah is really close to offering so that could be another option,” said Modster.
Modster’s brother plays at Boise State and the Broncos offered too.
“That was cool because it would be a lot of fun to play for Boise State but also a lot of fun to play with my brother so that was a big offer for me,” said Modster.
Modster doesn’t anticipate naming a leader or making a decision.
“I don’t have a top five right now, I’m still pretty open,” said Modster. “And I think I’ll wait it out for a while before deciding.”
Modster has a 3.4 and already has a qualifying score on the SAT.
