Ah You Is Eyeing a Few

Mar. 11 -- Chaz Ah You played on the Core6 national team this weekend at the Pylon 7v7 tournament in Las Vegas. The 2017 four-star safety caught up with Scout to talk about his upcoming off-season and where his recruitment stands...

Westlake (Utah) four-star sophomore, Chaz Ah You was planning to play for one of the local teams in the Pylon 7v7 tournament this past weekend, when the Core6 national team offer him a roster spot. The opportunity was too good for Ah You to pass up.

"When Core6 invited me to play with them in Las Vegas, I was really excited," Ah You claimed. "To get better, you need to compete with the best and around the best. Look at the guys on this team, they are all big time four and five star prospects. I've learned a lot playing with these guys and am definitely competing at my best."

While Ah You was one of the youngest prospects on the team, he held his own on the field and received a lot of praise from his teammates. He was able to play his natural position, which was the first time in a while.

"It's been great being able to play safety again," Ah You said. "My team needed me to play quarterback this past year, so I didn't see any playing time on defense. This next year, I will play QB and start at safety. I've spent the majority of the winter working on my strength and speed. I've also put in some work on my passing. I want to win more games, so I know improving at QB is a must."

From a recruiting perspective, the four-star athlete currently holds seven offers, but more could be on the way.

"Right now, I have offers from BYU, Hawaii, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Utah, Utah State, and Washington," Ah You claimed. "Out of those schools, Oklahoma State and BYU are standing out the most right now. I also really like Oregon State and Washington. I have to go see Oregon State again, now that they have a new coaching staff. I may go up to the Northwest to see a few schools up there."

"Oklahoma State is definitely my top school in that group right now. They will be in the mix until the end. That coaching staff has been great to me. I loved my visit out there last summer and could see myself playing out there. Coach Duffie, Spencer, and Gundy have been great to me. They are definitely at the top of my list."

Ah You is hoping to pick up a few more offers this summer. Four schools are standing out to the Westlake safety.

"I have a 'big four' that I am really want to get offered by," Ah You explained. "USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Oklahoma are all schools I am interested in. I will be taking unofficial visits to both LA schools this weekend. I am really excited. I have a good relationship with Coach Mazzone at UCLA and also really like the entire USC staff. I wouldn't really say that any school stands out over the others. I have a lot of connections to Oklahoma and that's been a dream of mine. But Oregon, USC, and UCLA are right up there too."

"Academics are really big for me, so I am also pretty high on Stanford. I'm pretty open minded at this point. I want a program with great players, great coaching, good tradition, and a place where I can get a good degree too. I know a lot of schools want to see me back at safety, so the upcoming season is a big one for me."

Ah You has added a few pounds of muscle since the end of the season and looks like a free safety should. He showed some flashes this weekend and is undoubtedly one of the top 2017 prospects in the Mountain Region. Ah You has a very nice ceiling.
