Franklin Will Make Summer Decision

Mar. 6 -- Downey (Calif.) linebacker Darrian Franklin could be close to making a decision but wants to take a handful of spring/summer visits before doing so...

Darrian Franklin is one of the top linebackers out West and looked very good when we saw him last weekend at the Pylon 7v7 in Las Vegas. He has added some size, is an aggressive player and looked very fluid playing in space and moving laterally.

On the recruiting front, Franklin is focusing on a short list of schools with one local option out in front.

"I'm going to commit in the summer time so I'm pretty close," Franklin said. "I had a pretty solid top three but now I'm getting new interest from schools like Arizona, Oregon and LSU so I'm backing off narrowing my list right now.

"USC is still on top for me and there's a lot I like about the program. I always like the feeling I have when I go there and it just feels like home to me. It's a big family there and I know so many guys on the team. Jabari Ruffin is someone I look up to and I like the defense and how I fit in too. They want me as an outside 'backer rushing the passer and that's what I love to do."

Franklin is still planning to check out a few other schools before shutting down the process.

"I'm going to UCLA this Saturday," Franklin said. "I want to meet the new LB coach, Scott White so me and my dad will head up this weekend. We're also going to Michigan when spring ball starts and if LSU offers, I'm going to go check them out too.

"Right now, the main schools I'm really feeling are USC, Michigan, UCLA, Arizona, Oregon and LSU. I haven't decided if I'll still take some official visits after I commit or not. I kind of want to for the experience and see some places but I haven't really thought about it too much yet. I still need to make a decision first and then I'll go from there."
