The biggest excitement, though, has come this week, with offers rolling in from Florida and UCLA.
"It's crazy, man, it's been a fun week," Jones aid. "Coach (Eric) Yarber, the receivers coach from UCLA, he talked to me over Twitter and they were saying how much they liked me. They came through and recruited me, and we've been talking for a couple of weeks now. And then they offered. It's really cool."
The UCLA offer was preceded by a Florida offer just the day before, and that offer from the Gators was particularly significant.
"I know I'm an Alabama kid, but I liked Florida growing up, actually," Jones said. "I wasn't an Alabama or Auburn fan, and people used to make fun of me. Everyone has their dream when they're little, and mine was to play at Florida."
Still, the currently unranked prospect is keeping an open mind, and plans to evaluate every one of his options from a standpoint of what is the best fit for him, considering a variety of factors.
"I'm looking forward to majoring in Business, so that has a lot to do with it," Jones said. "Playing time is a factor too. I look at the quarterbacks and everything. I look at the depth charts and everything. I'll factor in all that kind of stuff. I'll go anywhere in the United States, I don't care. I just want to go to the college that fits me."
Jones has no set plans to visit the West Coast yet, but is planning on figuring out a visit schedule soon.
"Me and my coach, we're supposed to come up with some time this spring and summer," Jones said. "I'm thinking about going to the Florida camp, going out to USC in the summer, and going to UCLA in the spring or in the summer. I've just got to make time for all of it. Texas State wanted me to come out too. I'm just going to try to fit everything in."
Jones has 13 total offers now, with Louisville, Tulsa, Troy, Southern Mississippi, Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette, Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, Texas State, and Alabama A&M joining Florida and UCLA. As of now, he says no one is standing out from the pack.
"I still haven't visited a lot of them, so I can't make any decision on that yet," Jones said. "I want to see more schools before I say I have a leader."
He did say that most schools, including UCLA, are recruiting him as an outside receiver.
One school that he said has not offered but has shown some interest is USC.
"They've been talking to me a lot too," Jones said. "Coach Tee Martin has been talking to me a lot. I actually go to high school with his niece. She's my friend, and I didn't know until she told me. He told me he had family down in Mobile, but I didn't even realize his niece was one of my friends until she said something. That was pretty cool to learn that. I was like, 'What?'"
As for a decision timeline, Jones would like to take his time, but he understands that the clock is ticking, to a certain extent.
"I'm going to think about doing it after the season," Jones said. "But I also have to think about it this way: if it's a school I really like, I might need to commit to secure my spot. There's only so many players that every school can sign, so I might need to jump on board if I find a good spot for me. I'm looking for my family to guide me, and I'll just sit back and pray on it."
Jones reports that he is currently 5'11, and 178 pounds.
