Barnes Is a Bruin

Mar. 14 -- The Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty linebacker, Krys Barnes, committed to UCLA on Saturday...

Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty linebacker Krys Barnes visited UCLA on Saturday for an unofficial visit.

When Barnes got there, he didn't even have an offer from the Bruins.

But midway through his visit, UCLA extended an offer and Barnes wasted no time in committing to UCLA.

"Krys was on campus today and he was offered by UCLA," said Armond Hawkins of Ground Zero. "He committed to UCLA when they offered him. He's still with Coach (Scott) White right now."

In fact, it was White that was a big reason for Barnes jumping on the offer.

"Coach White was the headliner for him, no doubt," said Hawkins. "He has a great relationship with Coach White."

Barnes had numerous offers, including from Oklahoma, LSU, USC and Nebraska, but the Bruins offer was the difference maker.

"He felt like it was the best fit for him to stay in California," said Hawkins. "He felt like there was a need for immediate playing time and the vibe they got was the best for him. He is there with his family today."

Scout will have more with Barnes following his visit.
