With recent offers from Arizona and Texas Tech, Maxs Tupai currently holds 17 offers. To this point, the Murray (UT) standout defensive end is focusing more on his own academics and improving his skills on the football field, than the recruiting process. That may change soon.
"At this point, I am really just working on myself," Tupai explained. "I'm making sure all my academics are squared away and that I am in great shape come this fall. School is my first priority right now, I am focused on making straight A's and that is what I am consumed by right now. When I'm not studying and doing homework, I am running, working out, and getting better as a football player. I have lost close to 10 pounds, but have gotten much stronger and faster since the end of my season. I am going to spend my spring break coming up, doing some MMA training. I want to become more quick and technically sound."
"A lot of offers are coming in for me right now. It is really exciting, but I am trying not to let any of it get to my head. I know I haven't really done anything yet. I need to stay focused and hungry. I'll do a little research now and then, but really, the focus is on school and myself."
Despite the four-star's focus, there are a few schools that he is hoping to receive offers from this spring and summer.
"A few schools I am really wanting to hear from and get a scholarship from are Oregon, Florida State, Auburn, Alabama, and Michigan," Tupai shared. "I want to play amongst the best and compete with the best. Oregon and Florida State really jump out at me. They really have a lot of talent and seem to be in the hunt every year. I love the great SEC programs too. I don't know if they will really give me a look or not, but I'd certainly consider playing down there. Michigan is another big one. That coaching staff is great and they have so much history. I'm hungry for those offers. Those are the type of schools that I would potentially commit to on the spot if they offered. I'm planning to get up to Oregon this spring to see the campus and hopefully get an offer. I love the idea of being a Duck."
Tupai is also drawn to a few schools that have extended him a scholarship.
"I'd say USC is on me the hardest right now," Tupai claimed. "I have started to build a good relationship with them. Coach Tuiasosopo is a cool guy and I know they have a ton of talent over there. UCLA and Utah are also coming after me hard. I like UCLA a lot and know they have produced a lot of good talent on their defenses recently. I like Utah too. I just feel like I want to get out of the state for college."
Tupai is arguably the top prospect in Utah right now. The four-star defensive end has a great motor, a tremendous burst off the edge, and a lot of athleticism for a 245-255 pound DE. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and could provide an instant spark on special teams at the next level. It's not hard to imagine Tupai bulking up to 270+ and sliding inside or staying at a lean 245 and flying off the edge.
