VIDEO: Powell Talks UAB

Mar. 21 -- Senior guard Norman Powell talks about making a return trip to the Sweet 16...

Norman Powell talks after UCLA beat UAB to advance to the Sweet 16:

On what keyed the win:
The togetherness and chemistry and picking up our focus on defense. We're taking better quality shots. We're not jacking shots up. We're working for high-percentage shots.

On the change since December:
You watch tape then and now, it's a totally different team. We were figuring out our roles and chemistry. Guys trying to get a great feel of playing at the college level. We went through adversity but we got confident in conference.

On if they expected to dominate:
Yeah, I did. I told Tony I wanted 30 and 10 from him. He came up two points short. I said 'you killed it, but you came up two points short.' I wanted him to establish in the paint, we knew their was a mismatch.

On Tony Parker bettering his free throw shooting:
He hasn't beaten me in free throws. Tony jokes around and its not true.

On giving up the threes:
We knew that Brown and Norton could shoot. Its tough when everyone is feeling it. We made them take some tough threes, NBA range threes. We have to do a better job of defending that line.

On going to another Sweet 16:
It feels great. Individually, myself, we were in it last year, but I was determined to get back. That team last year could have done something special, but tough breaks in the Florida game. This was one of my goals coming in to my senior year, to advance. I saw the potential in this team. In summer workouts and pickups, we have guys with experience, me being a senior, going through it all, maturing, I believed in myself and this team. When you have teams that believe in themselves, the sky is the limit.
