Antioch (Calif.) 2017 running back Najee Harris (6-2, 215) was recently named a five-star by Scout.
The all-state sophomore, though, isn’t resting on his laurels.
“It’s cool and I’m grateful I’m a 5-star,” said Harris. “But it doesn’t define me. It actually gives me more to prove. And I’m doing that right now. I’ve been working out more and (Sunday) I was running the hills all by myself. I still have a lot to prove.”
Still, schools are plenty enamored with Harris, who’s become one of the most coveted players in the country in the 2017 class.
“I believe I have around 20 offers,” said Harris. “I’m not ready to say a few are standing out though. Maybe in a year from now, towards the end of my junior year.”
Harris said a couple schools are already recruiting him pretty aggressively.
Harris plans to see each of the three in the coming months, with visits to Alabama and Tennessee coming soon and UCLA to be determined.
“I went to UCLA for their Elite Camp last summer but never really toured the campus,” said Harris. “I’m going there either in spring or summer to tour it. Coach (Kennedy) Polamalu is recruiting me for UCLA and Coach Angus (McClure).”
Harris already visited Alabama for their Junior Day, where he was offered by the Tide, and he’ll head back for their Spring Game.
“Coach Tosh (Lupoi) is recruiting me at Alabama and he’s recruiting me hard,” said Harris.
Tennessee was one of the more recent offers, with Vols running backs coach Robert Gillespie offering Harris and being the primary recruiter.
“I’m going out to Tennessee for I think their Spring Game but to check them out,” said Harris.
Harris said Oregon is talking to him more of late.
“The coach there wants me to come to their camp and they want to evaluate me and see me up close,” said Harris. “They like me though.”
Harris said he anticipates a number of schools coming to see him in the spring.
Harris will be at The Opening Oakland Regional in May and is playing 7v7 with TMP Elite this spring.
