There is no doubt that Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Tesoro quarterback Devon Modster is one of the top quarterbacks in the 2016 class on the West Coast, and as such, he's getting attention from a variety of big-time Pac-12 programs.
“In no order, the schools that are recruiting me the hardest are Arizona, UCLA, Washington State and Utah,” Modster said. “All those schools have good things about them.”
UA had one of the first shots at making an impression on Modster.
“I’ve been to Arizona and the visit was really fun," Modster said. "It seemed like a great school and a place where the coaching staff is looking to do big things.
“With UCLA, it’s the school that is in California and they are getting some really good players. They like me in that role where I can make some plays from the pocket, but at the same time, I can make plays with my feet. They have a history with that.
“Any quarterback is going to want to look at Washington State. Coach Leach puts total faith in his quarterbacks and that is something I’m looking for.
“Utah is another Pac-12 school that has been pretty consistent over the years and I feel I might be the kind of guy to step in there and maybe take things to the next level.”
Regardless of his collegiate decision, it is going to be made quickly.
“I’m going to make my decision here in the next three weeks or so," Modster said. "I’m obviously going to take a couple visits in the process and by that time I will have enough information to make a decision.
"In a weird way it will be kind of nice to get the decision out of the way and be able to start looking at things from a different point of view.”
