Pre-Practice Player Status Report

Mar. 31 -- We have updates on the injured, position changes and how the quarterbacks will rotate reps...

-- The biggest pre-spring news, as Bruin Report Online broke Monday night, was that wide receiver Devin Lucien is leaving the program. He’ll try to graduate from UCLA after this year and take advantage of the graduate exemption to use his last year of eligibility elsewhere and be immediately eligible. Sources are indicating Lucien intends to transfer to Arizona State, and that UCLA is willing to allow it.

-- Slot receiver Ahmaad Harris won’t participate in spring practice due to off-the-field issues.

-- Redshirt junior safety Randall Goforth has recovered quicker than expected from his season-ending shoulder surgery. He’ll be non-contact for a short period of practice but is then expected to be full-go for a big portion of spring.

-- Other players who will begin spring practice non-contact:

*Offensive Lineman Caleb Benenoch, who is expected to be full-go within a week
*Running back Steven Manfro
*Linebacker Cameron Griffith, who will have a brace on his surgery-repaired shoulder
*Receiver Austin Roberts
*Defensive tackle Eli Ankou, who will have a cast due to surgery for a broken wrist

-- Players Who Were Hurt But Cleared for Spring:

*Cornerback Johnny Johnson
*Cornerback Denzel Fisher
*Receiver Darren Andrews
*Linebacker Dwight Williams

-- Kenny Orjioke, recovering from his ACL surgery, won’t participate much in spring.

-- Offensive Lineman Scott Quessenberry is out for spring.

-- Position Changes:

*As anticipated, Najee Toran has moved from offensive line to defensive line.
* Colby Cyburt has moved from offensive line to tight end. In fact, he's moved to a traditional tight end position, which will be the position filled by incoming freshman Chris Clark this fall, not the Y receiver spot.

-- The four quarterbacks, Jerry Neuheisel, Mike Fafaul, Asiantii Woulard and Josh Rosen, will rotate daily in groups of two in getting the #1 and #2 team reps. It’s intended to give each of the four the most amount of time with the 1s and 2s. That will go on for about the first seven practices, and then the coaches will re-assess from that point.

-- Freshman linebacker Josh Woods and freshman defensive back Nathan Meadors were in class today and will participate in practice.
