VIDEO: Payton on First Practice

Apr. 1 -- Senior wide receiver Jordan Payton breaks down the quarterbacks and talks about Devin Lucien...

Jordan Payton:

On opening camp without Brett Hundley:
Different. Brett is one of my best friends. Its hard when one of the greatest quarterbacks UCLA has had leaves. But I like what I saw today. We have a great group of quarterbacks. I'm extremely confident in whoever is throwing. My job is to catch, block and run so as long as the ball is getting their on time, we'll be just fine.

On if there is a feeling of being unsettled:
To be honest, I didn't really think about it until the end of practice. Every spring, we'd throw when we were stretching. Those quarterbacks did a good job of facilitating. They did a great job today. Because they've been in the system so long, besides Josh, they have experience in running the offense. We'll miss Brett but I'm excited about the future.

On Josh Rosen:
He's a very good quarterback. But I'm excited about the competition. There are so many over there competiting. He's a great quarterback. I think Jerry is, Mike, Asiantii even Aaron has some spurts. Its going to turn up and be fun.

On his impression of Rosen:
Smart, very smart. He knew so much about everything. He has a bright future. All the attributes that he has has. We're excited, I'm excited, this is my last year. Whoever is throwing, I'm catching and excited.

On Devin Lucien:
Devin is a good friend of mine. All that he's been through, the competition, we've known each other for a long time. I wish him the best. I'm always there for him. I wish he was out here with us. We're a tight group.

On if he'd rather have a starting quarterback named as soon as possible:
Me personally, I can't stand say I want this or that. I go with what the coaches say. That's what is best for the team. What's best for the team, is what's best for me. I have a very simple job, do what's right all the time. That's my job. I see no number, no nothing on the quarterback.
