Gilliam Set to Hit The Road

Apr. 3 -- Thousand Oaks (Calif.) will be on Spring Break next week but don't look for quarterback Max Gilliam to be hanging out at the beach. He'll hit the road and check out several colleges...

Max Gilliam is a quarterback we like a lot and feel he's among the most under-recruited players out West. He has a solid frame, good athlete, a smooth throwing motion and the ability to throw with touch and accuracy.

Scholarship offers have come in from Marshall and Toledo but Gilliam is a BCS level quarterback in our eyes and has a lot of the physical tools as well as the football IQ and work ethic off the field to play at the next level.

On the recruiting front, Gilliam has taken visits to Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA and will hit the road again this weekend, starting Saturday.

"I'm going to Boise State on Saturday," Gilliam said. "That's their Junior Day so that should be a good time. Then on Monday, I'll visit Washington, Tuesday I'll be at Washington State, Wednesday will be Oregon State, Thursday I'll be at San Jose State and Friday I'll hit up California.

"It would be great to walk away with a couple of offers but none of the schools have really hinted that one will be coming. I talk to Cal the most in that group. They already have a QB committed but told me they want to take two. They said they want to come down and watch me throw after April 15 when the evaluation period gets here and they could offer me then."

Gilliam said he hasn't heard from Arizona since they took a commitment from Khalil Tate but UCLA is still talking with him.

"I heard UA could take two guys but I haven't heard back from them since Tate committed," Gilliam said. "I'm talking with UCLA and they want me to camp with them and I'm still planning to do that. We'll see how these visits go and maybe someone will surprise me with an offer. I'm just going to enjoy the trips and go from there."
