Apr. 8 -- The elite Gardena (Calif.) Serra defensive end Oluwole Betiku has taken a couple of unofficial visits over spring break -- including two to UCLA, and one just this morning -- and could be close to making a decision...
is one of the top prospects in the region and is currently rated the No. 83 player in the nation. He developed incredibly quick last year from the first time we saw him in spring ball to the end of the season.
Betiku's junior year was his first playing football and by the end of the year, he was a dominant force off the edge. He's a high motor player, naturally strong with plus athleticism. He can run down plays from behind or stand his ground at the point of attack and make a play. As he continues to learn the game, his production should really take off and few players have as much upside as he does.
On the recruiting front, although it's just early April, don't be surprised if the lineman makes a quick decision.
"I'm honestly already tired of the recruiting process," Betiku said. "I see some guys narrowing their list down to 5-7 but I would love to narrow it down to one pretty soon here.
"I'm still talking with Lavar (Arrington- guardian) but I have a good idea what I want to do. We're still talking things over, he knows where I want to go but it's a process and nothing is finalized yet."
Betiku visited USC
a couple of weeks ago for the Trojans scrimmage- USC visit recap
and checked out Maryland
"I kept it pretty low key but I was in Maryland last week for spring break," Betiku said. "We get two weeks off so I was there visiting the crib all week and just got back home Monday. It was nice, it's so different there than out here in Southern California but it was a fun trip."
, where Arrington played, will be an obvious factor in his recruitment as well as UCLA
. Betiku visited Westwood in early April and was back on campus today.
"I'm comfortable there, they always show me a lot of love," Betiku said. "I've been there a couple of times now and I'm close to the coaches and it's a very nice place. Lavar knows the new DC, Tom Bradley, really well from when he played for him at Penn State and I like the staff a lot.
"So right now, I'm just going to play the process out and like I said, me and Lavar are discussing all my options. I won't drag this out, that's for sure, I want to focus on my senior year without any distractions so the sooner the better for me."
