Kelly On OU Trip, Other Visits

Apr. 15 -- The #1 prospect in the west, linebacker Caleb Kelly, checked out Oklahoma, and he talks about other visits...

No school has been recruiting Caleb Kelly longer or harder than Oklahoma. They were his first offer over a year ago and the athlete made his second visit to the school this past weekend.

"I went to the Spring Game last year so this was my second visit and I loved it there," Kelly said. "The fans are crazy there, the weather was pretty bad, it rained a lot and they all still came out and showed their support. I love the facilities, the weight room, locker room, it just looks like how a big time program should look.

"I didn't do the whole campus tour, it was mainly a football visit but I did get to see the dorms and I like how it's set up there. They have dorms separate for the athletes and of course having some of my boys from Fresno is pretty big too."

Kelly is very close with current Sooners Hatari Byrd, Joe Mixon and Michiah Quick.

"It was great to see those guys and they're all doing very well and love it there," Kelly said. "Quick kept talking about how we could be roommates there and Joe and Hatari were in my ear a lot too. It's mostly in fun because we're all friends so they don't need to try and recruit me but having those guys is definitely nice because they'll tell you how it really is and like I said, they love it there.

"I have a great relationship with the coaches and Courtney Viney is a guy I know really well. He's from here and we talk a lot. I had a nice sit down meeting with Coach Stoops as well and he was breaking down the depth chart and showing I could play early.

"I could play the SAM or the MIKE 'backer and they lose some seniors at both spots. They only have 10 'backers on scholarship right now so he said I could come in and compete right away. Depth charts aren't that big a deal because I know there is going to be good players wherever I go. I've always considered myself the underdog, it helps me to stay hungry."

Kelly has already visited Michigan this spring and has two more trips coming up later this summer.

"I'm going to Notre Dame June 19 and Alabama (July 13)," Kelly said. "I'm also going to visit Oregon later in the summer but don't have the date locked in yet. My 7v7 team is going to try and play in the tournaments at USC and UCLA and I'll visit both schools when I'm there as well."

USC along with California were both recently added to Kelly's new top 10 list.

"They never stopped recruiting me," Kelly said. "Even though they weren't on my original list, they never stopped talking to me and that meant a lot. They were recruiting me harder than some schools on my list so I decided to put them back on there.

"I visited both schools last year and didn't have that great of a vibe as I did with other places but they're good programs and I'm definitely going to give them a hard look. As for a timeline for a decision, it's still the same, I plan to wait until Signing Day. I'm going to take all my visits during the year and then make my decision. Right now, it's early and I'm still very open."
