Apr. 22 -- It took longer than we expected but San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills quarterback Patrick O'Brien landed his first offer on Tuesday from Nebraska...
has had a great spring, winning QB MVP honors at the SoCal Opening Regional Camp and then leading his B2G 7v7 squad to tournament wins at the Passing Down and IMG events.
O'Brien is a big, strong kid who can make all the throws and has surprising mobility as well. On film, he shows a nice pocket sense and feel for the pass rush and can make plays with his legs. That poise and decision making has carried over to the 7v7 circuit as well.
On the recruiting front, O'Brien stayed patient and his first offer came from Nebraska
"I was speechless," O'Brien said. "I was so excited, I was honestly at a loss for words. They came out to see me throw last week so I knew they were interested and then I talked with Coach Langsdorf this morning and he told me they wanted to offer.
"This is a big offer as well, getting my first one from a school like Nebraska is huge. I'm going to take a visit there sometime in May. I don't have the exact date but it will be sometime in mid-May and I'm definitely giving them a hard look right now. I love the offense and the coaching staff so I'm excited for the visit."
The offer from the Huskers likely won't be his last.
is coming to watch me throw tomorrow and USC
will be by on Thursday," O'Brien said. "I also got a call from UCLA
today and they're still in spring ball but will be on campus to see me May 5th. Coach (Taylor) Mazzone invited me up to visit the campus too but I'm not sure when I'll have time to do that because my schedule is pretty crazy right now.
"I've been talking to USC for a while and took a visit there last month. This weekend I'm going to Chicago with B2G and will visit Notre Dame
and hopefully Northwestern
. I talked to Northwestern in January and their QB just de-committed so hopefully they'll jump back on me too."
