UCLA Next Stop for Winfield

Apr. 25 -- Scout.com has an update with Houston-area defensive back Antoine Winfield...

The Woodlands defensive back Antoine Winfield, a player who will likely have a long line of coaches show up to see his progression this spring, already holds a few offers, but is expecting a few more. This weekend, he looks to head west and check out the UCLA program, which is one of those schools he hopes will offer.
“Right now, I am looking at the program," Winfield said. "I like UCLA and I want to go and check it out."

At the moment, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Winfield said that he has had some contact with the UCLA staff, but classified it as “every once and a while.” It seems as though that is enough for him to book the trip. So far, Northwestern is the only trip he’s made to date.

He does hold four offers from Northwestern, Michigan State, Lamar and Houston. UCLA is the one school he is hearing from the most aside from the programs that have offered.

“I feel like there is enough interest for the trip. I want to see a few things while I’m down there,” Winfield said. “I want to see how the team does on the field. I also want to see the facilities, coaches and the people around the program. “

As for an offer, Winfield said that the UCLA staff wants to make the trip to the North Houston program for spring football so that they can get a closer look. Winfield is known as a player who contributes to a lot of turnovers.

Last season, he finished with 87 tackles, five forced fumbles and two interceptions.
