Things continue to move quickly for 2017 Wren High quarterback Jay Urich. The 6'4 185 pound prospect has seen his stock take off in a big way during the last few months and he has gotten the attention of a Big Ten school along with a pair of new ACC schools during the past week or so.
"Penn State came down to visit me last Monday," Urich said.
The 2017 signal caller dealt with strep throat and pneumonia just prior to Penn State's trip to see him, but he battled through and had a solid workout. Apparently thanks to that workout, there's a lot of mutual admiration between Urich and the Nittany Lions.
"They talked with my high school coach, Coach Tate," Urich said. "Penn State's quarterbacks coach said he was impressed and that Coach (James) Franklin knows about me and that he's coming down for a live game next year. I'm going up to Penn State with my team for a 7 on 7 so I'll get to see some of the campus and facilities hopefully."
There are other schools who've stepped up their interest this past week as well, Urich informed us.
"I've also got some new interest from North Carolina and NC State," Urich said. "UNC already came by the school to talk with my coach and watched a little of practice to check me and one of my wide receivers out. NC State will be down next week sometime to see me. SC State is also coming. Texas is still sending me hand written letters and I've also been getting some mail from UCLA. Furman and Western Carolina have also been by to see me lately."
Urich says as of right now, in addition to his plans to head to Penn State, he'll also camp with both North Carolina and NC State.
