Narbonne High School offensive tackle Alex Akingbulu was able to take advantage of the evaluation period, as he was able to visit many in-state schools and a couple of out-of-state schools. Those visits have helped him identify four schools that stand out from the rest.
"I currently have 14 offers," Akingbulu said. "Michigan, UCLA, Utah and Cal stand out the most right now."
Akingbulu's recruitment took off just before the evaluation period, and he saw new offers come in almost daily, but he says that has slowed down a bit as of late.
"My recruitment has been really good," Akingbulu said. "It's been a blessing. Things have cooled down a little in the last couple weeks, but I've gotten more familiar with the process."
Akingbulu said that the past few months have given him a nice perspective on the recruiting process.
"I've learned that it's important to stay humble," Akingbulu said. "I've also learned how important it is to have a genuine connection with college coaches."
A connection and good relationship with the coaching staff is an important factor in Akingbulu's recruitment, and he was able to see early on which relationships were better than others.
"I love the environment and coaches of those four schools," Akingbulu said. "They have shown the most interest in me, and they all have great futures."
Having taken those unofficial visits, Akingbulu has a good idea which schools would be the best fit for him, but says he's still remaining open to other schools. He stressed that he's looking for a good education, a great atmosphere, a great coaching staff at the school he ultimately decides to attend.
Akingbulu said he'll likely make his decision sometime during his senior season, and will also plan on taking official visits, though he may not use all five.
