Colon Names Top Six

May 25 -- North Carolina defensive linemen Christian Colon released his top six on Friday afternoon. Following his announcement, the nation’s 56th-ranked defensive tackle spoke with Scout to break down each of his final six...

Christian Colon announced his top six schools earlier this afternoon.

Maryland, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse and UCLA made his list. According to Colon, all six schools are even at this time and he will visit each this summer at some point.

“I feel like I would have a chance to play early at all six schools and they are all very good schools academically,” said the 6-foot-3, 303-pound Colon. “I also feel like I could get drafted at any of those schools if I develop well as a player.”

Although he named his top six, Colon said the door is open for other schools to join the list, as he plans to visit Auburn and Alabama early next month.

He gave a quick thought on each school.

Maryland: “It’s between Charlotte and New York, so both sides of my family could see me play,” Colon said. “They also run 3-4 defense and I’d have a chance to play weak-side defensive end and nose guard.”

North Carolina:”I really like (defensive coordinator) coach (Gene) Chizik. He’s a great defensive coach and I like his personality and he’s going to help them win games. They’re also an in-state school, so I could stay home and play.”

Penn State: “I love the atmosphere and the campus. They also have a great coaching staff with a lot of enthusiasm. They’re players are really cool, too.”

Pittsburgh: “I have a good relationship with (defensive line) coach (Tom) Sims and they have a reputation for putting guys NFL. They also have a good academics and play good competition.”

Syracuse: “They’re rebuilding the program and I feel like if we got a good class go there and buy in, we could really change the program around and be a part of history.”

UCLA: “I just like the reputation they bring to the table. They're a good program. They also play in the Pac-12, which is a good conference. And they have great academics.”

Colon will make his commitment on Nov. 6, which is his team's senior night.
